Chapter 1 - Respect for Parents

Rahul's Busy Life

In a small town in West Bengal lived a teenage boy named Rahul. His father was a daily wage laborer, and his mother was a homemaker. The family struggled financially, yet his parents never compromised on his education.

Rahul was a good student, but as he grew older, a little pride began to grow inside him. His classmates came to school with new mobile phones and expensive clothes. Rahul also wished for such things.

One day he said to his mother,

— "Everyone wears new shoes, and I have to wear these old ones! You can't give me anything!"

His mother remained silent. His father heard everything from outside. Tears filled his eyes, yet he said nothing.

A Mother's Silent Sacrifice

The next morning, Rahul's mother sold her small gold nose ring, which she had saved for years, and bought him a new pair of shoes.

Rahul happily went to school, unaware that his mother had given up something precious for his happiness.

In the evening, a neighbor said to his mother,

— "Sister, did you sell your nose ring?"

Rahul overheard the conversation and was shocked. He realized how much his mother had sacrificed for his small happiness.

His heart felt heavy. For the first time, he wondered—had he made a mistake?

A Father's Hard Work

One day, while returning from school, Rahul saw his father carrying bricks under the burning sun. His body was soaked in sweat, his face tired—yet he kept working tirelessly for his son's future.

Rahul watched quietly from a distance. He remembered the day he had told his father,

— "You can't do anything!"

He understood then that his parents were his greatest blessing. Without respecting them, no one can truly become successful in life.

From that day onward, Rahul began to change.

The True Meaning of Respect

That night, Rahul stood before his parents with his head bowed and said,

— "Please forgive me. I will never disrespect you again."

His mother embraced him warmly. His father placed his hand on Rahul's head and said,

— "Son, we don't want anything from you. We just want you to become a good human being."

From that day, Rahul changed not only in his studies but also in his behavior. He realized that respecting one's parents is the greatest lesson in life.
