## The Wheel of Fortune: A Story of Kindness and Betrayal

My father's childhood was filled with comfort and joy. Back then, my grandfather was a very wealthy man with a heart of gold. He was known for his immense charity—helping the poor and even funding the weddings of many underprivileged girls in our community. Alongside his wealth, he ran a grocery shop that served as a pillar of our livelihood. As my father grew up, he began helping out at the shop.

Life was going well. After my parents got married, I came into their lives. Even then, our family's financial condition was stable. However, fate had other plans.

Suddenly, my father began experiencing excruciating stomach pain that wouldn't go away. When we consulted a doctor, the diagnosis was devastating: he had kidney stones. Unfortunately, the surgery performed locally was botched. With his condition worsening, he had to be taken far away for better treatment.

I was very young at the time, so I stayed back with my grandmother while my uncle accompanied my father. He remained away for a year and a half, fighting for his life. The medical expenses were staggering—nearly **1,000,000 BDT (10 Lakhs)** was spent on his treatment. Although he eventually recovered, he had to lose one of his kidneys in the process.

Upon his return, my grandfather handed over the grocery shop to him, and they decided to expand it by attaching a room to the shop. However, the cost of treatment and the business expansion buried my father under a mountain of debt.

This was the moment of realization. When my father reached out for help to the very people my grandfather had once supported with money and kindness, they all turned their backs, claiming they had nothing.

My father finally understood the harsh reality of the world: **people can be incredibly ungrateful.** He learned the hard way that while helping others is noble, one must also save for themselves. In the end, the same people you help might be the first to criticize you when you fall.
