The "Tricycle Killer" Turk described sounded like a complete lunatic, robbing anything he saw and taking whatever he could get. Alien scrap, gang weapons and ammunition, dollars, euros—he accepted everything without discrimination or purpose. If that was not a madman, what was?
Vulture had no idea how many people had quietly contributed to the crude mechanical wings he had built. Since he did not know, there was naturally nothing he could tell Daisy about it.
The so-called Tricycle Maniac flashed briefly through Daisy's mind. In her ingrained impression, people who did this sort of thing were usually just low-level Black street criminals. It hardly seemed worth troubling the Deputy Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. over some third-rate street crime.
Turk Barrett, however, was a minor celebrity of sorts. He drifted around the streets and was famous for knowing things. Every now and then Daredevil beat him senseless, Luke Cage threw him into a dumpster, Spider-Man webbed him to a wall... Superheroes of every kind took turns messing with him. He was the sort of man who never committed any major crimes but constantly accumulated small ones.
In one possible future, the man achieved quite a lot. Turk Barrett inherited Kingpin's legacy, became the dominant underworld boss of the East Coast, brought Bullseye under his command, and eventually even gained control of the Mind Stone, standing on the same level as Adam Warlock and Doctor Strange.
The odds of that future becoming reality were extremely low. At the very least, Daisy could not see anything in this man that would let him control the Mind Stone.
She shook her head at Wanda to indicate that everything was fine and that she should continue the livestream.
Wanda had no idea how many thoughts had passed through Daisy's mind. She was still stuck at the simple conclusion that the Tricycle Maniac was a bad person.
Together with Turk, she denounced this sort of person for tarnishing New York's image, speaking directly to the camera. In the end, Wanda even encouraged Turk, saying things like New York would keep getting better.
After saying goodbye to Turk, the street merchant who would buy or sell practically anything, the two continued forward.
When they passed Pop's Barber Shop, Daisy signaled with her eyes that there was a good person inside.
The barbershop was small but very clean. The elderly Black man nicknamed Pop really was brimming with positive energy, and he launched into a long speech about working hard and never giving up.
"Friends, you see? This is the spirit of New York. Hard times won't defeat us, and aliens certainly won't either!" At the end, Wanda even made a fist at the camera in a gesture of encouragement. The elderly Black man beside her raised his own enormous fist and cheered her on as well.
They kept walking and stopping along the way. During the pauses, Wanda also interacted a little with the people watching the livestream. Some wanted her to interview random passersby, while others suggested questions for her to ask.
From time to time Wanda looked toward Daisy. A nod meant accept, a shake of the head meant refuse. After several rounds, Wanda roughly grasped where the boundaries lay, so Daisy stopped intervening and let her make judgments according to her own wishes.
"Streamer, look diagonally behind you. There's a black figure over there. He definitely has a secret. Hurry and follow him!" one viewer reminded her.
Wanda could not help looking at Daisy, wanting to know her judgment.
Daisy had noticed him long ago. It was someone she knew, though not well. Since the point was to cultivate Wanda's independence, Daisy neither nodded nor shook her head. The decision was entirely Wanda's.
Wanda quickly made up her mind and followed her instincts. She wanted to know what the shadowy figure was doing too, so she immediately chased after him, waving as she ran for her classmate and camera operator Daisy to keep up.
The blind lawyer Matt Murdock had recently been investigating Union Allied Construction. Instead of wearing the suit and tie he normally used as a lawyer, he had changed into tight black clothing and covered his face with a mask.
After knocking down three lackeys, he had failed to get the information he wanted and had only obtained the name Turk Barrett. He was now heading back along familiar streets, planning to question the supposedly well-informed man.
As he rounded a corner, he suddenly heard voices in the distance and immediately pulled back.
Even that tiny movement, however, was caught by Daisy's expensive video camera.
Matt knew Daisy. His extraordinary senses "saw" her immediately.
What was this strange woman doing out here in the middle of the night? Matt's suspicious nature kept him thinking about the significance of Daisy's presence and caused him to overlook a few other problems.
Only when Wanda started running toward him did he abruptly realize that she seemed to be coming for him.
There was no time to think. He turned and ran.
Wanda's half month of hard long-distance training finally proved useful. Her physical attributes were already a little better than an ordinary person's. Although she could not catch the thoroughly trained lawyer Matt, he could not shake her either, and the distance between them remained small.
"Hey, please wait! I just want to ask you a few questions!" Wanda shouted as she ran.
He was not yet dressed like the future Daredevil, but there was no way Matt could let a camera capture him in black clothes with his face covered. The blind lawyer practically sprinted for his life with his eyes closed.
The tangled streets and alleys held no secrets from his senses. He vaulted obstacles as though nothing stood in his way.
Matt, who knew the terrain, ran in front. Wanda struggled to regulate her breathing as she chased behind him. Daisy wanted to keep Wanda firmly in the spotlight, so she did not use any super-speed and merely followed at the rear with the camera on her shoulder.
The three raced through street after street, launching a nighttime chase across New York.
Matt quickly realized that Wanda was not good at running through complicated terrain. He immediately exploited his advantage, climbing and leaping like a parkour runner as he tried to lose them.
As far as Daisy was concerned, if Matt did not want to be interviewed, they could simply find someone else. There was no reason to compete with him over it.
Wanda, however, possessed a stubborn streak that refused to stop until she achieved her goal. Even as Matt pulled farther and farther away, she gritted her teeth and kept chasing.
The result was not particularly optimistic. Without using magic and without Daisy's help, a soft young woman who had trained for only half a month was never going to catch Daredevil. After running for fifteen minutes, Wanda finally lost him.
"Huff—huff—I'm definitely going to ask him next time! Why did he... why did he run away?" Wanda said breathlessly to the viewers in front of the camera.
Daisy fought hard not to laugh. Wanda was surprisingly entertaining when she got serious. Had she really not realized that the man simply did not want to expose himself? And she had still tried to interview him?
Fortunately, Daredevil was a superhero with decent character and would not make an issue of something like this. If Wanda chased a villain that way, determined to expose the villain's secret, retaliation would be inevitable—car accidents, shootings, framing, one thing after another. A story that started with a street livestream like this would be enough for a thirteen-episode television series.
The two turned back, preparing to end the livestream for the night.
As they walked, a familiar frequency suddenly entered Daisy's perception. Why had Matt Murdock come back?
She saw the blind lawyer in a suit and tie, holding a white cane and secretly observing them from very far away.
This guy had changed into another persona and followed them again?
