"You're making a mistake," Carla snapped, looking from Morozov to Nico. "Nico, you know she's lying to you. She's playing you to keep the Regency."
Nico finally looked at Carla. There was absolutely nothing in his eyes.
"If you ever speak to my Regent like that again," Nico said softly, "your brother will be collecting you in boxes. Get out."
Carla stared at him, the reality of the rejection finally hitting her. She grabbed her purse and walked out, the heavy door clicking shut behind her.
Morozov tapped the papers. "This is dangerous information, Regent."
"Only if we keep it to ourselves," Mara replied.
"What do you want?"
"We want your backing when we bring this to the Council," Nico stated, taking over the operational side. "Greco has the votes. We need the guns. You verify the port attack was a false flag designed to hit your territory, and you back our claim."
"And in return?"
