At a luxury restaurant across town, Mrs Revell sat gracefully, across from her sat a young woman, roughly Camilla's age.
RACHEAL;
"Mam, are you sure about this?" I asked.
"You just mentioned that your daughter in law was against this . you're going ahead without her consent?"
"You're getting paid, aren't you?" She asked and i nodded hesitantly.
"Then mind your business and do what you're paid for"; she replied firmly.
I didn't have much of a choice. I had to accept, just so i could take care of my grand mother.
To be honest, i didn't like the idea of being a surrogate for Xander Revell's wife. Mrs Revell had said she wouldn't accept this, but she was going through with it anyway.
I was promised a huge sum of money. She even said she'd find a way to make me Xander's wife if i could give birth to a male child.
I liked what i stood to gain. It mean't I'd be rich and able to take care of my grandmother.
Yes, what i was doing came at the expense of another woman's happiness..... But i honestly, i don't think i care anymore.
______TWO WEEKS LATER______
XANDER;
I don't really know what my mom wants this time.
Camilla called, saying she wants me home immediately.
The moment i stepped into the room, my eyes fell on the woman standing stiffly beside my mother.
What is the problem, mom? And....who is she? I asked gesturing towards the stranger.
One question at a time, Xander; my mother said, her tone sharp.
"You remember i asked you both to consider surrogacy, right? Well.... This is your surrogate. Her name is Racheal Morris".
But... Mom in law! We haven't given much thought to this yet. I also have the right to decide who the surrogate will be!; Camilla exclaimed, her voice sharp.
" Keep your voice down, camilla"; i reprimanded firmly.
I thought you wouldn't reprimand this characterless wife of yours; my mom said with a scoff.
Characterless?? Since when did i become characterless? Camilla shot back.
"I'm not accepting surrogacy!"
The room went silent for a moment.

MRS REVELL;
After hearing Camilla's defiance, especially her last words, i couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"And who gave you a choice Camilla?" I asked, my voice dripping with amusement.
You have no other option. Its either a divorce or surrogacy; i added, letting the weight of my words sink in.
"That's enough mom!" Xander yelled, cutting me off.
"Well are you going to do it or not? I demanded.
" We will..., let's go by tomorrow.
Are you satisfied now?"; Xander shot back angrily, his fist clenched.
"Xander! You can't just make that decision on your own!" Camilla yelled, her voice cracking with frustration.
But Xander ignored her, his jaw tight, and walked out of the living room without a word.

JADE;
"This.... Is unbelievable " i whispered, barely able.to believe my ears.
Xander went ahead with it? I asked turning to Camilla.
She nodded, tears streaming down her cheeks, her body trembling.
I had been on my way out when she ran up to me, sobbing. My chest tightened at the sight.
I crouched slightly to meet her gaze.
"Hey..." I said softly, letting my voice carry warmth.
"I know it's hard..... But look at the bright side, you're going to be a mom soon. That's something to be happy about, isn't it?"
She blinked through her tears. Slowly, she wiped her face and nodded, a fragile flicker of hope shining through the sadness.
"How have you been?" She asked, shortly after regaining composure.
"Good" I replied shortly and she raised her brow, staring at me suspiciously.
What were you doing, Jade? She asked again.
Nothing much...., just clubbing and.....
"Jade!" Camilla called cutting me off.
"I tod you to stop clubbing and hanging around with those girls, what you're doing has a big disadvantage. What if you get raped, kidnapped or something?"
Uurgghhhh.... Camilla, we've been together since childhood, you should know I'm never going to listen; I replied chuckling softly.
But....listen to me for once, I'm just giving you a .....
Friendly advice.... I know, i know; i replied cutting her short.
"I'm leaving " she said.
What! So soon? I asked with wide eyes.
Yes! You just ruined my mood again; she replied, picking her bag and running out immediately.
I stared at her speechlessly.
