When I had woken up from that awful nightmare, I was still shaking. My heart was pounding uncomfortably in my chest while I was still trying to forget what I had just seen.
When I finally opened my eyes, I saw the room that I had been living in alone almost 3 years. I must have forgotten to close the window again while sleeping. I hate when my neighbor burns wood and fills my room.I finally looked at my hands;they were still shaking and cold. I tried to forget the nightmare again but it didnt go away. I decided to start somewhere and stood up to close that window. How did I manage to sleep in that cold? I immediately switched the electric heater and stood in front of it.That felt nice.
I looked outside the window once again;the day was just starting and the street lights were still dim in the fog.
When I moved into the kitchen area of my room, the ironing board I left middle of the room was still there. It looks awkward but I love ironing. With each movement I made across the fabric,my toughts becomes clearer. Ironing simply became a part of my life. It is the only thing that makes me feel alive.
I started to make breakfast. I chopped some tomatoes, peppers and put it into the pan. and cracked 2 eggs on top of it. And just like that,a simple breakfast is ready.
I didn't eat right away. I must do ironing first. I approached the ironing board and started ironing my nightwear. steam rose for a minute. After ironing, I folded my clothes and put onto my bed. The breakfast looks cold from right here. And in a sudden, My phone rang loudly. I approached to it and didnt believe my eyes. The message came straight from my email.
"Unit code verified.Report to central complex at 10:00. No delays tolerated."
Breakfast sat on the table, forgotten. I opened
base of my bed and pulled my old school bag. I packed my bag everything I thought I might need. I carried my Ironing board with me, wore my formal clothes, put on my shoes and got everything I need for now. By the time I finished, the breakfast grown cold.
I stepped out in hurry. The apartment is freezing.I started running to nearest bus stop as I got no time left.
My breath forming clouds in the cold morning air. The ironing board is quite heavy but it worth it. The street was almost empty, fog curling around the dim streetlights. I didn't care if everyone saw me rushing.
The bus hadn't arrived yet. Through the fog, I noticed a girl standing a few meters away. Our eyes met for a brief moment and I quickly looked away. Pretending not to notice. But something about her gaze made the air feel heavier.
The bus finally appeared through the fog. Its headlights cutting a path from the fog. I stepped forward and climbed on. Still stealing glances at the girl at the stop. meanwhile, I found a seat near the window. My bag and board on my lap, going the unknown. Outside, the street rolled by,empty and disturbing like her face.
The bus stopped in front of the complex. The fog was gone. The pavement looked full with pedestrians. City looked awake.
I entered from the door and walked by the tree sided road. and finally ,i looked up and there it is. The massive white structure rose in front of me, windowless and silent. It didnt belong to the city. The city belonged to it.
