Varg's hand was still resting on my stomach. Shaking off the memories of that mold-scented cave and the "pheromone-less" girl he had snatched from Kael's lands, he looked directly into my eyes with that glowing Alpha red.
"You drifted away." I said with a giggle. "Hey! I'm right here. Where are you?"
"That night I kidnapped you..." Varg began, his voice thickening with the weight of a confession. "When you clawed my face and screamed 'usurper' at me... I thought you were just a toy I stole from Kael. Your wolf had no scent; your pheromones were silent. I saw you as a freak."
I smiled softly, placing my coffee mug on the marble bench. "But now..." I said, tracing my fingers over his face, over the imaginary scars I had once opened with my nails.
"Now we are here, Varg. The girl you called a 'freak' has become your greatest hunger. I think you've just started to love me, but you can't say it because you're a heartless monster."
