Absurd. How utterly absurd.
Bathed in the first light of dawn—a pale gold radiance still tinged with a lingering chill—the young gold dragon Alberto Aurelius felt an unprecedented wave of absurdity and disbelief wash over him.
For a fleeting moment, he was so disoriented he wondered if he had fallen into some masterfully woven illusion.
He, a metallic dragon with an extensive network of connections, was now being besieged by a swarm of evil dragons.
Wasn't this scene completely backwards?
As the fierce wind whipped past him, Alberto had no time for further thought. The indignation and fury in his heart far outweighed his fear.
For the sake of his ultimate dream, he had sworn an oath in his youth to become a Holy Dragon. Unlike his complacent kin, he had diligently honed his strength, surpassing other gold dragons of his age in life grade and proving stronger in combat.
The red-iron dragon's incredibly sturdy body did indeed exude an overwhelming pressure.
However...
Alberto's sharp dragon eyes swept over his opponent's form, keenly spotting a crucial detail.
There wasn't a single "battle-scarred pattern" on the red-iron dragon's body—not a single mark to symbolize a veteran who had survived countless life-and-death struggles.
This revealed the opponent's utter lack of combat experience.
In stark contrast, Alberto's own brilliant gold backplates bore several faint yet crystal-clear lines—scars etched into his dragon scales like medals of honor, silently recounting past glories and victories.
They were the ironclad proof of power and experience!
Therefore, the moment his initial shock and bewilderment receded like a low tide, Alberto plunged his mind into a calm as still as an ice lake.
Instead of fleeing in disarray under the siege, he charged headlong into the dragon pack that closed in like a wolf pack.
Divine Smite!
The Oath Rune on his right arm, symbolizing the will of conquest, erupted in a blinding golden light that pierced the dawn. Alberto let out a roar that shook the heavens. His dragon arm, wreathed in holy energy, descended like a god's hammer of judgment, tearing through the air with a piercing shriek as it smashed down toward the chest of the oncoming Red Iron Dragon, Garos.
Almost simultaneously, the Red Iron Dragon's massive claw, covered in metallic scales, met the attack head-on with terrifying force, eschewing all finesse.
BOOM—!!!
A dull, deafening explosion erupted, so powerful it threatened to burst eardrums. A violent shockwave, mingled with stray shards of shattered scales, blasted outward in all directions like shrapnel.
The two colossal forces collided with such violence that both massive bodies were thrown backward by the impact.
However.
The very instant the Red-Iron Dragon's form recoiled, the other "evil dragons" seized the fleeting opportunity like unleashed hounds.
With unprecedented speed, they surged past Garos, who had yet to regain his footing, and closed in on Alberto from multiple angles as he struggled to steady himself.
Mind Spike!
A brilliant psionic glow erupted in Iron Dragon Solgorn's eyes. An invisible spike of concentrated mental will, ignoring all physical defenses, tore through space and plunged deep into Alberto's mind. The searing pain surged through the Gold Dragon's consciousness like an electric current, causing his movements to falter.
Harden Body!
Almost simultaneously with the Mind Spike's impact, Solgorn's black metallic scales shimmered with a deeper, colder luster, as if forged from fine steel. Using his own massive, iron-clad body as a weapon, he hurtled forward like an unstoppable siege hammer, slamming into Alberto's flank with crushing force.
"Get off me!"
Alberto roared in fury, fighting through the agonizing pain in his mind.
His dragon tail whipped through the air with a piercing whistle, striking the charging iron dragon's body with the force of a thunderbolt. A dull thud echoed as Iron Dragon Solgorn's massive frame was sent flying.
But the assault was far from over.
A crimson dragon shadow closed in simultaneously.
Red Dragon Samantha's wings beat violently as she slammed her massive, heat-covered talons into Alberto's broad chest.
At the moment of impact, a scorching explosive rune, radiating destructive power, seared itself into the gold dragon's golden scales.
BOOM!
A deafening explosion erupted, sending a shockwave of raging fire tearing across the gold dragon's chest.
The relentless barrage left Alberto's massive body reeling. He struggled to steady himself, his combat instincts kicking in at the last possible second to propel him sideways.
A blast of bone-chilling white dragon breath roared past, grazing the edge of his wing membrane—a sneak attack from White Dragon Treacy.
Before he could even catch his breath, a shadow suddenly engulfed him.
The red-iron dragon, though slightly smaller in length, possessed a raw strength that made Alberto's very soul tremble. It had closed the distance again, now looming right before him.
Divine Armor!
Alarms blared in Alberto's mind. Without a moment's hesitation, he unleashed the vast reserves of Sacred Oath energy within him. A golden holy light, so dense it seemed almost tangible, erupted from his body, rapidly coalescing and shaping itself around him.
In an instant, a magnificent armor of pure, ethereal yet physically solid holy energy completely enveloped his dragon body.
Dragon Qi Rotation: Enhanced Claw Strike!
Garos's response was curt and lethal.
Black-red dragon qi suddenly swirled around his massive claw as he swept it toward Alberto's head.
BOOM—!!!
A duller, heavier impact than before exploded through the air.
The seemingly impenetrable Divine Armor shattered like fragile glass in less than half a breath, sending shards of energy flying in all directions.
Though the armor had absorbed some of the blow, the remaining, still overwhelmingly powerful force of the claw strike slammed squarely into Alberto's left cheek and jaw.
Crack.
The sickening sound of bone fracturing echoed faintly.
Alberto's noble dragon head was violently wrenched to the side by the colossal force. Several broken, blood-stained dragon fangs flew from his mouth as he let out a pained grunt.
What chilled Alberto's heart even more was this:
After its successful strike, the red-iron dragon showed no hint of overextending itself. Instead, it beat its massive wings violently and retreated sharply.
And in the very instant it withdrew—
Iron Dragon Solgorn, Red Dragon Samantha, and White Dragon Treacy descended once more, striking from three different, treacherous angles!
"Cunning! Despicable! Honorless wyrms!"
The humiliation and rage within Alberto threatened to breach the dam of his reason.
He saw through their tactics. The red-iron dragon was clearly intending to use its immense pinning power and oppressive presence to hold him in place, while the other evil dragons launched a relentless barrage of harassment to wear him down.
In this desperate straits, there was only one chance!
Alberto threw back his scarred head.
Voom—!
A divine and dazzling light suddenly converged and soared above his head.
The light rapidly condensed and took shape.
In a flash, a magnificent crown forged of pure holy light hovered above Alberto's head. Its surface was inscribed with several lines of ancient and profound draconic runes, their meaning seared directly into the minds of all who beheld it.
Law: Law is supreme. It is the foundation of civilization and must be treated with the utmost solemnity.
Loyalty: A word given is a word kept. Without loyalty, oaths and laws are meaningless.
Courage: Fearlessness. You must be willing to stand up when order is shaken, even when the odds are slim. If you do not act, who will?
Responsibility: Fulfill your duties. You must recognize the importance of your actions and accept their consequences. You must do your utmost to fulfill your responsibilities and obligations.
Oath of the Crown!
Alberto had mastered two Sacred Oath paths.
The Oath of the Crown was a noble ideal for civilization, typically manifesting as an identification with the national spirit, loyalty to a monarch, or the upholding of laws and rules. Alberto's Oath of the Crown, however, was somewhat different. It was an extension of his Oath of Conquest—a fierce resolve to defend his own crown.
