Chapter 2 - Almost Too Close

🌙 Episode 2: Beneath the Same Sky

The campus was quieter at night.

Classes were over. The corridors were empty. Only distant laughter echoed from somewhere far below.

Elara didn't know why she came to the rooftop.

Maybe she needed air.

Maybe she needed space.

Maybe she needed to stop thinking about him.

The evening sky stretched endlessly above her — deep blue fading into black, scattered with early stars.

"You always disappear after class."

She didn't turn around.

"I like quiet places."

Footsteps approached slowly. Calm. Unhurried.

Zayn stopped beside her — not too close, not too far. Just enough to make her aware of him.

"You ignored my coffee offer."

"You were late."

He let out a soft laugh. "So that's my crime?"

She finally looked at him. "You think everything is a joke."

"And you think everything is serious."

The wind picked up slightly, brushing her hair across her face. Without thinking, he reached out—

Then paused.

"May I?"

The smallest hesitation.

She didn't answer.

But she didn't move away either.

His fingers gently moved a strand of hair behind her ear. The touch was light — almost careful — but it sent warmth through her skin.

Their eyes locked.

This time, neither of them looked away.

"What are you hiding?" she asked quietly.

He held her gaze for a long moment.

"What makes you think I'm hiding something?"

"Your eyes," she said. "They don't match your smile."

For the first time, his expression shifted.

Something real flickered there.

"You notice too much."

"Maybe you don't hide well."

Silence settled between them — but it wasn't uncomfortable.

It was charged.

Below them, the university lights glowed softly. Above them, the sky felt endless.

"Why the last row?" he asked suddenly.

"So I can leave without anyone noticing."

"And do you always leave?"

She didn't answer.

Instead, she stepped closer to the edge, looking up at the sky.

He followed.

Now they stood side by side.

Close enough that their shoulders almost touched.

Almost.

"You don't have to leave," he said quietly.

It wasn't about the classroom anymore.

She felt it.

The shift.

The meaning behind the words.

For a second — just one second — her fingers brushed against his.

Accidental.

But neither of them pulled away immediately.

Under the university sky,

something fragile… and dangerous

began to grow.
