Meredith Rowan really knew how to curry favor.
Her goal in coming to the island was clear: to further win Shirley Thorne's goodwill, hopefully to the point where Shirley would see her as a dear, older confidante.
She believed that with her previous pity ploy as a foundation, Shirley Thorne would no longer be concerned about whether her status was presentable enough.
If Shirley were still hung up on it, she wouldn't have sent someone to specifically invite her to the island, much less let her stay in a resort villa.
All signs indicated that Shirley currently held a considerable amount of goodwill toward her. It was a stage of being more than friendly, but not yet close enough to be a confidante.
Her primary goal now was to completely earn her trust, to become friends despite their age gap, the kind who could talk about anything and everything.
