Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Why Are You So Different From Before?

Ethan Sinclair didn't drive away until he saw the two of them walk through the school gates.

Nina Sinclair had held her tongue the entire ride. Seeing Ethan Sinclair finally leave, she couldn't help but ask, "Chloe, why are you so different from before?"

"How am I different? Is there something wrong with me now?"

After speaking, Chloe Sinclair stared at her without blinking, her black pupils like an abyss that no one dared to look into directly.

Nina Sinclair didn't say anything. As if giving up, Chloe Sinclair walked straight ahead.

Her class was Senior Class 1. The moment she entered, she heard a group of boys gasp.

"Holy crap, who's this hottie? Why haven't I ever seen her before?"

"She looks kind of familiar, a bit like…"

"Chloe Sinclair!"

Chloe Sinclair wore a cold expression, seemingly deaf to the surrounding chatter, and walked straight to a single seat in the last row.

She had just sat down when a boy in the row ahead of her called out her name. In an instant, everyone turned to look.

"Are you really Chloe Sinclair?"

The boy in front of her turned around, his gaze meeting Chloe Sinclair's large, beautiful eyes.

"Holy crap, you really are Chloe Sinclair! I can't believe Chloe Sinclair is this pretty!"

Chloe Sinclair found the boy before her somewhat familiar, but she couldn't quite place him at the moment.

Seeing that Chloe Sinclair didn't seem to recognize him, Summer Beckett's temper flared. "Fuck, don't tell me you don't remember me!"

'To think someone didn't know his name—Summer Beckett's name! It was simply infuriating!'

Summer Beckett was good-looking, and plenty of girls chased after him, so he was particularly confident about his appearance.

But Chloe Sinclair's bewildered expression didn't look like she was lying. His handsome face darkened, and he muttered a curse under his breath.

As Chloe Sinclair looked at Summer Beckett, various pieces of information flashed through her mind. Suddenly, the boy's face overlapped with a face in her memory.

She finally remembered this boy was named Summer Beckett.

"I remember you. You're Summer Beckett," Chloe Sinclair said gently.

Hearing this, Summer Beckett calmed down a bit, but his eyes were full of scrutiny. "Tsk, you've only been out of school for a few days, how could you change so much? My dad said you hit your head and went stupid. I didn't think it was true."

Chloe Sinclair's mouth twitched. 'Summer Beckett really has a sharp tongue,' she thought.

But his words reminded her of something.

Summer Beckett's father was the chairman of the Beckett Group and was on good terms with her own dad. In her past life, when she was being bullied, Summer had been the first one to stand up and speak for her.

But one day, Summer Beckett suddenly stopped coming to school. No one paid it much mind; after all, the young master wasn't exactly studious. He often left his exam papers blank and frequently skipped class. In the end, he didn't even show up for the college entrance exams.

After the exams were over, many police officers came to investigate, but they never said what it was about.

Only later did she find out that Summer Beckett had been asked to meet someone one night and then disappeared. After a month-long search, the police finally found his body in a junkyard.

And the case went cold.

Summer Beckett was the Beckett Family's only son. After his son's death, President Beckett lost the will to continue. He sold the company and returned to his hometown to care for his wife, who had lost her mind.

Looking at Summer Beckett's current punchable face, Chloe Sinclair found it impossible to imagine that he would soon die a violent death.

"If you say that again, I'll go home and tell my dad, and then have my dad tell your dad. We'll see if your dad doesn't beat you then."

Chloe Sinclair's eyes were big and dark, and her voice was soft and gentle, but her words made Summer Beckett feel as if he were facing a formidable enemy.

Chloe Sinclair was the Sinclair Family's treasure. The thought of Uncle Sinclair and her brothers made Summer Beckett freeze.

He was certain that if his dad found out about this, he'd get beaten black and blue.

"Sis, I'm begging you, please don't tell my dad. My ass is on the line."

With that, he pressed his palms together in front of his chest and bowed solemnly to Chloe Sinclair. "As long as you agree, no matter what you need in the future, I will go through hell or high water for you, no questions asked!"

Summer Beckett's deskmate, Ken Lawson, just got back from the bathroom. Seeing him act this way toward Chloe Sinclair, he couldn't help but look at him with contempt. "Summer, are you sick in the head? Bowing to that ugly girl? Can you stop embarrassing all the guys?"

Although Summer Beckett didn't like to pay attention in class and his test scores were a mess, he was rich and easygoing, so his deskmate wasn't afraid of making him angry.

But he had completely miscalculated.

Summer Beckett's face instantly darkened. He looked up, rolled his eyes, and said speechlessly, "What the hell does me talking to my sis have to do with you? If your eyes are bad, go see an eye doctor. This young master will cover your medical bills for free."

Summer Beckett's voice was loud, making no effort to hide his words from the rest of the class.

As soon as he finished speaking, quite a few people burst out laughing.

His deskmate's expression turned ugly as he sat in his seat, his face flushed red with anger.

Who knew Summer Beckett held a grudge? After his deskmate sat down, he continued, "If Chloe Sinclair is an ugly girl, then wouldn't that make you less than scum?"

Chloe Sinclair couldn't hold it in. She covered her lips and let out a soft laugh.

Then, she cleared her throat with a couple of soft coughs and said seriously, "I can agree not to tell our parents, but from today on, you can't miss a single class at school."

She remembered that the night Summer Beckett had his accident was a Monday. As a boarding student, he should have been in school for evening self-study, but he had skipped it.

Summer Beckett, who had been prepared for a difficult request, was taken aback. His brown eyes filled with confusion, but fearing she would go back on her word, he immediately agreed. "Fine. A deal's a deal."

Chloe Sinclair smiled faintly, feeling much more at ease.

Although she hadn't spent much time with Summer Beckett, he was the only person who had spoken up for her in her past life. Moreover, she couldn't bear to see a boy whose life had just begun die a violent death.

Chloe Sinclair's smile left Summer Beckett stunned.

He swallowed hard and exclaimed, "If you were always as normal as you are today, your sister wouldn't even be in the picture."

Chloe Sinclair didn't say anything, but 'She completely agreed with his words.'

She took a math book out of her schoolbag and prepared to start on the problems.

Seeing this, Summer Beckett didn't disturb her and turned back around to play on his phone.

When the class bell rang, the English teacher walked in with a dark expression, holding a stack of English tests.

The moment she reached the podium, she slammed the papers down on it.

A loud "THUD" made Chloe Sinclair jump, and she looked up at the English teacher.

"This time, our class only got second place, 0.01 points behind Class 2! What's the use of scoring high when a few stragglers make all the class's efforts worthless!"

The English teacher's fierce gaze shifted to the last row, landing right on Chloe Sinclair.

When Chloe Sinclair met that familiar yet somewhat strange gaze, her heart trembled slightly.

"Especially the student in the last row. It's bad enough you don't study seriously, but you're also constantly unkempt. I can smell you from a mile away. You should take a shower more often when you have time. What if you start stinking up the place for your classmates?"
