Jasper Shaw sent her a "good night" message, then went silent.
Chloe Sinclair's brow twitched. She placed her gloves on the lab bench and walked over to sit on the sofa in the break area.
She started a video call.
The first time, Jasper Shaw rejected the call in less than a second.
Just as Chloe Sinclair was about to start a second video call, Jasper Shaw beat her to it and called her.
"Chloe, sorry, I accidentally hit the wrong button just now."
The video connected, and a close-up of a handsome face filled Chloe Sinclair's screen.
Jasper Shaw was dressed in a suit, his hair slicked back immaculately. Behind him was a row of bookshelves filled with all sorts of books.
It only took a glance for Chloe Sinclair to know that Jasper Shaw was still at the office.
But it was already almost ten o'clock.
"You're not in bed yet?"
Jasper Shaw sounded a little guilty. "I'm working late today. I'll definitely get to bed earlier tomorrow."
