Philinos sprang up from the snow, bringing his blade up to shield Gu Ning.
The reflection of Blue Blade glinted in the giant black wolf's eyes. It neither retreated nor advanced. It glanced at Philinos's sword, then its gaze settled on Gu Ning.
Gu Ning staggered to her feet and rushed over to grab Philinos's hand. "Bird Team, don't fight! It's Alex!"
Philinos paused and lowered his blade. "I know it's him."
With that, he smoothly sheathed his blade and turned to grip Gu Ning's shoulders, looking her up and down. "Are you hurt?"
Gu Ning shook her head and looked toward the Black Wolf.
The Wolf King's massive head drew near, its snout gently nuzzling her cheek.
"Alex," Gu Ning said, unable to hide her joy as she reached out to stroke his head.
Alex licked her hand, his gaze soft and shimmering as he watched her.
