"Supervisor, I really do have something important to take care of. If you can't approve my request, then I'll have no choice but to resign."
Yun Zijin was dead serious. She had given it real thought—after all, the rewards from her job were nowhere near as great as what she received from completing the system's tasks.
"Are you serious?"
The supervisor could see that Yun Zijin wasn't joking. She was genuinely prepared to resign.
"I'm very serious."
"Alright, then. I'll approve it for you this time. But you should really think carefully about resigning. Our company's salary and benefits are quite good for the industry. If you quit, you might not find a better job."
The supervisor signed Yun Zijin's leave slip, but he kept trying to persuade her even as he wrote.
After all, a talented and highly productive intern like her was a rare find. Barring any surprises, Yun Zijin would have been the first among her cohort of interns to be offered a permanent position.
"Thank you, Supervisor. I'll think it over carefully."
Yun Zijin took the leave slip, said nothing more, and walked out of the supervisor's office.
"How did it go? Did you get it approved?"
Sang Ying had been shocked to hear Yun Zijin was asking for leave *again*. 'Kids born after 2000 are really something else!'
Yun Zijin waved the leave slip in her hand at Sang Ying. "Of course. There isn't a day off I can't get."
Sang Ying gave Yun Zijin a thumbs-up. She was truly impressed by her ability to get time off.
"It's almost quitting time. I'm just going to drop this leave slip off at the admin department, and then I'm out of here. See you tomorrow, Sister Sang!"
"See you tomorrow."
After leaving Dingsi Building, Yun Zijin took a taxi to the Dijing Southern Suburb Auto Expo City.
Although Yun Zijin had bought a number of luxury items in the past few days, she still made a habit of wearing her old clothes to work. The only exception was a Tiffany T series T1 diamond bracelet on her wrist. She only wore it because everyone at work was too busy to notice such things.
However, just because her colleagues wouldn't notice didn't mean others wouldn't.
The salespeople at the Auto Expo City were a lot like the associates at luxury boutiques—they all judged a book by its cover.
The salespeople sized her up instantly. She had come alone, so she was likely buying for herself. She wore no major brands, except for the bracelet on her wrist—and its authenticity was debatable. It was clearly her first visit, but her confident expression suggested she had come prepared. The verdict: an interested buyer, but not for a high-ticket item.
Still, a sale was a sale. A salesperson quickly approached.
"Hello, I'm Li Qi from the Volkswagen dealership. What kind of car are you looking for?"
"Volkswagen?"
'This brand doesn't seem to have any really expensive cars...'
"Sorry, I'm not planning on buying a Volkswagen at the moment."
The Volkswagen brand was built on affordability, but Yun Zijin was looking for a car that would help her spend all six million, not some little runaround for under two hundred thousand.
"I see. In that case, would you mind telling me your budget? I could recommend another brand for you."
Li Qi hadn't expected to be shot down before he even started, but he quickly recovered. He couldn't make this sale, but he could refer the customer to a friend at another brand.
It was an unwritten rule at the Auto Expo City: for a referred customer, the salesperson who closed the deal had to give the referrer five-thousandths of their commission.
It wasn't much, but every little bit helps, right?
"Let's say six million."
"Okay, six... six million? Did you say your budget is six million?"
Li Qi had assumed her budget was two hundred thousand at most, and that she simply didn't like the Volkswagen brand. He never expected...
'If I had six million, I wouldn't be buying a Volkswagen either.'
Yun Zijin nodded, confirming.
"Uh... please wait a moment. I'll get someone to come over and help you right away. Do you have a preferred brand in mind?"
Since salespeople couldn't sell across different brands, Li Qi's only option was to make a referral.
Li Qi had already @'d everyone in the sales group chat. A six-million deal—whoever snatched it, got it.
Someone in the group chat responded quickly, but not everyone believed him.
Li Qi wasn't surprised. With so many salespeople at the Auto Expo City, there were bound to be a few shady characters.
Before long, a young-looking salesperson walked out of the Rolls-Royce dealership.
"Brother Li."
Looking at the newcomer, Li Qi knew at once that he'd been pushed out by the other salespeople.
They didn't believe the customer he'd referred actually had the money, but they didn't want to miss the opportunity either, so they sent an intern. If by some chance a sale was made, they could probably still try to steal it.
This sort of thing wasn't uncommon; interns in the dealership had basically no authority to close a deal on their own.
"Miss Yun, this is Hu Yi, a salesperson for Rolls-Royce. With your budget, you have plenty of great models to choose from."
Yun Zijin wasn't particularly concerned about the brand. All that mattered was finding a car that would let her spend the full six million.
"Let's go take a look."
"This way, please."
Hu Yi wasn't confident about this sale. He hadn't exactly been pushed out, but Li Qi usually looked out for him, and he didn't want to leave the man in an awkward spot. That was a big reason he'd come.
But when he heard Li Qi say Yun Zijin's budget was six million, he was shocked. 'Don't tell me she's secretly loaded?'
"Do you have any preferred models? Our brand's vehicles tend to be more business-oriented."
Although their performance was comparable to sports cars, the models were almost all geared toward a business style.
Typically, people who bought a Rolls-Royce were successful, middle-aged individuals.
"You can recommend something. Li Qi already told you my budget is six million, so just show me a few options."
Yun Zijin truly knew nothing about luxury cars.
"Certainly. Are you interested in an SUV? This Cullinan is in the right price range. It might go a little over, but I imagine that's a small matter for you."
As he spoke, Hu Yi led Yun Zijin over to the Cullinan on display.
"If you'd like a test drive, I can arrange that for you."
"Do you have any smaller models?"
Undeniably, the Cullinan was a model many men would love, but Yun Zijin was all on her own; she had no need for something so big.
"Smaller? In that case, what do you think of this Phantom? It's only a two-seater, though, and the price is relatively lower."
Hu Yi led Yun Zijin to the Phantom on display. Its black body and flowing lines immediately caught her eye.
Having dealt with so many customers, Hu Yi had some experience reading people's micro-expressions.
He knew he'd hit the mark by recommending the Phantom.
"What's the on-the-road price for this car? If I sign the purchase contract, how long until I can get the car? License plate, insurance, all that—do you handle everything?"
Getting a license plate in Dijing via the lottery system was no easy feat. If the dealership could handle it all, it would save Yun Zijin a lot of trouble.
"The final on-the-road price depends on the options you choose. We can handle all the paperwork. As for the car, they are built to order, so the minimum wait is about half a month. That part is unavoidable."
Hearing this, Yun Zijin nodded. "That's fine. Order one for me. I'll pay in full."
