Unbeknownst to Xia Jiajiao, the two officers had returned to the J Bureau, changed into plain clothes, and made their way back to Kangde Hospital.
Following the ward number Xia Zhiyun had provided, they approached the hospital reception desk.
One of the plainclothes officers pulled an ID badge from his pocket and showed it to the receptionist. Startled by the badge suddenly appearing in her line of sight, she was momentarily dazed but quickly recovered.
"Hello, you two... gentlemen. How can I help you?" She almost blurted out "officers," but seeing their plain clothes, she forced herself to swallow the word at the last second.
"Is there a Ms. Zhang Yiqin staying in Ward 14 of the inpatient department? Was she admitted for a coma caused by a high fever?"
The receptionist hurriedly checked the inpatient list and quickly found the name of the patient in Ward 14.
