The commotion outside was so earth-shattering that inside the doghouse, the Little Fox stopped hiding. She and Er Huang poked their heads out to watch the excitement, but the doghouse was too low, their view blocked by the crowd. The Little Fox slipped out and climbed a tall persimmon tree to watch.
Er Huang couldn't climb trees and barked anxiously at the base of the trunk, "WOOF WOOF!" The Little Fox extended a paw and pointed into the distance, signaling for him to go find a higher spot to watch from.
Er Huang glanced around but decided against going far. Instead, he decisively ran toward the stage. He was just a dog—specifically, the Li family's own mutt—so no one would be surprised even if he ran onto the stage.
