Selene wasn't easily distracted this time. Her fingers flew out, her slender hand tightly grasping onto the expensive fabric of Marcus's uniform sleeves. She looked up at him, her eyes flashing with a rare, stubborn determination.
"Whatever it is you need to discuss, Marcus, it can happen right here. There is no need to hide behind closed doors anymore. Not from me, and certainly not from Irene, considering she was in the wing when everything occurred," she insisted, her voice steadying as she looked between him and the rest of us.
I stiffened against the sofa cushions. The air in the lounging area was turning dangerously thin again. My mind raced through different thoughts.
No one in the entire kingdom was supposed to know about Xander's curse except for the King, the personal royal alchemist, and Marcus himself. If Selene pushed any further, if she forced Marcus to speak the truth, then...I could not think further as it was time for action not thinking.
