Clarissa and Maya, my stepmother, always had their ways of pleasing men—be it through their 'wifely' duty, sweet words, or just acting weak to make sure their men felt wanted.
I wasn't someone who took initiative in all that, especially the last one. I was too used to doing everything by myself, that I wouldn't ask for help unless I was driven to the brink of desperation.
Honestly, if I wasn't cornered back then, I wouldn't have asked for Ray's help either, because I didn't want to be entangled with the man that I had hurt back then.
I was afraid that he was out for revenge against me, but it seemed that fate had worked in a unique way, because he came as the only savior that I had.
