Chapter 1 - A Love the Crown Didn’t Choose

She had never imagined working in a palace would change her life forever. A simple job—keeping the halls tidy, serving meals, and managing the little details of daily life—was supposed to be routine. Yet everything shifted the moment the prince noticed her.

It started subtly: a smile in passing, a question about her day, a shared laugh in an empty corridor. Slowly, those small moments grew into secret conversations, stolen glances, and a connection neither expected. She found herself thinking of him constantly, and he, in turn, began to look for her in every hallway, every garden path, every morning as the palace woke.

But love in a palace is never simple. The prince's father had already chosen a bride for him—a princess from another land, a family allied with theirs politically and financially. She was beautiful, poised, and rich, and her arrival was meant to strengthen ties between the kingdoms. When she learned of the girl in the palace who had captured the prince's heart, jealousy consumed her. Though she had never lived there, she did everything in her power to remove the girl from his life: whispers, threats, and even subtle schemes meant to scare her. Each plan failed, and every failure only drew the prince closer to the girl he loved.

Meanwhile, the prince's parents were furious. They had envisioned a royal union to secure alliances and wealth, and now their only son was defying decades of tradition and careful planning. The prince, the heir to the crown, stood at a crossroads. He could obey duty, marry the political princess, and keep the kingdom safe—or follow his heart, risking everything for love.

One evening, under the quiet moonlight of the palace garden, he took her hand in his. "I cannot marry her," he whispered, his eyes locked on hers. "I will not marry anyone but you. Even if it means giving up the crown, even if it angers everyone, I will choose you."

Her heart pounded. "Your parents… the alliance… the crown?"

"I am willing to risk it all. Nothing matters more than this," he said firmly.

The day of the arranged wedding arrived. The palace glittered with grandeur, foreign ambassadors and nobles lined the halls, and the princess from the allied kingdom stood ready, expecting to marry him and unite their realms. But the prince did not appear beside her. Instead, he strode through the hall, unflinching, to the girl he had loved from the start.

With the entire palace watching, he took her hand and declared: "I will marry no one else. Not for wealth, not for power, not for alliances. My heart belongs to you."

The foreign princess's eyes narrowed in disbelief. His parents' expressions shifted from shock to anger. But the prince remained steadfast, the only child willing to defy tradition and duty for love.

The wedding that followed was unlike any the kingdom had seen—a celebration of hearts rather than wealth or politics. Nobles whispered, the foreign princess fumed, but nothing could shake the truth: love had chosen its own path.

And as they stood hand in hand, smiling at a future they had carved out themselves, the palace seemed to sigh in relief. For in a world of rules, expectations, and crowns, the heart had triumphed. Love had won.
