1067 IY , imperial capital , Great Valkyros Empire
The night was especially dark that day and it felt like whole world had it's breath stuck
In a luxurious highpalace , surrounded by beautiful gardens , a river and high walls which were enough to raise everyone eyes in awe
The palace corridors were hushed, heavy with anticipation. Candlelight flickered along the polished walls, casting trembling shadows over marble floors.
Two maids stood near a tall arched window, their hands busy with linens though their attention was elsewhere.
"Have you heard?" whispered Eliza, glancing down the corridor before leaning closer. "Her Imperial Majesty's pains began before dawn."
Mary gasped softly, pressing a hand to her chest.
"Oh heavens… truly?"
Eliza nodded, lowering her voice further.
"The midwives were summoned in the night. Even the royal physician has not left the chamber."
Mary clutched the folded cloth tighter.
"Then it is finally upon us…"
A pause.
The palace felt like it was holding its breath.
"Do you think," Mary murmured, almost afraid of the words, "that it will be a prince?"
Eliza hesitated, eyes drifting toward the towering doors at the end of the hall — the Queen's wing.
"They say the astrologer predicted that a prince will be born ," she said quietly. "A son born under a winter moon. A child who would have his name turn into legends ."
Mary's eyes widened.
" Is it really true...."
The word lingered between them like something sacred.
"Oh, the bells will ring loud soon across all directions " she whispered. "The whole Empire will celebrate."
Eliza gave a small, knowing smile.
"Aye. Maybe he might reunite the Holy Empire again ."
Mary nodded, though her expression softened.
"I only pray Her Imperial Majesty endures the ordeal safely," she said. "They say childbirth is… a dreadful trial."
Eliza's smile grew less .
"My sister nearly died birthing her first," she admitted quietly. "And that too with the physicians beside her."
The weight of the thought settled between them.
Far down the corridor, a door opened suddenly.
Both women straightened.
A footman hurried past, face pale but composed.
They watched him disappear around the bend.
Mary's voice trembled.
"Do you think… it is done?"
Eliza didn't answer immediately.
Somewhere deep within the palace, a faint cry echoed — distant, fragile, unmistakable.
Both maids froze.
Mary's hand flew to her mouth, eyes shining.
"…Did you hear that?"
Eliza slowly smiled, awe softening her features.
"Yes," she whispered.
"I believe the Empire has its heir."
And somewhere beyond the palace walls, the first bell began to ring.
....
The whole city woke up in the middle of the night and they knew all too well what it meant
Soon the whole crowd began to gather out in front of the palace gate and they began to pray but not for the safety or well-being of the child
They all prayed so that they could receive rewards from soldiers and indeed soon a soldier came out and started distributing copper coins , throwing them from above into the crowd like how a zookeeper feeds animals
And then whole crowd started gathering coins like crazy and some even began to snatch it from those who were lucky to receive it
This whole event continued for a few minutes till guards emptied their bag of coins and then soldiers raised their bows and said in a loud voice
" Peasants, those who will not empty this area within next few minutes will be shot down "
His words were clear and soon the whole area was cleared with not a single soul in sight .
— This event is a tradition going on for thousands of years whenever a prince or princess is born ( In this tradition, palace bells are rung and then all peasants from the surrounding streets must come and pray for prince or princess wellbeing , there are even reports of casualties during these events )
...
Back to inside the palace ( few minutes after this whole things )
In the lavish corridors of the palace , outside a huge gate , many footsoldiers , physicians and maids were whispering among themselves
THUD… THUD… THUD…
Soon the whispers were halted because of the series of footsteps, the one who was coming was a tall man with broad chest , light beard , platinum blond hair and a velvet cloth wrapped around his eyes .
This man was Maximus ll of Lorrenz Dynasty which has ruled these lands for thousands of years , he was being supported by his assistant Marcus because of Maximus blindness.
Maximus wasn't always blind but he made a pact because of which he had to sacrifice his eyes and ever since then Marcus had become his eyes .
Soon maximus stopped before the group and his assistant whispered in his ears about the scene in front of them
" We greet your Imperial Majesty , the Emperor" all the people gathered outside the room bowed and said in unison
" Why are you all standing outside ? " Said the Emperor in a commanding tone
All the servants stiffened upon hearing this , then royal head physician stepped forward and said " Your Imperial Majesty, by the gracious order of Her Imperial Majesty the Empress, we have retired from her presence, to grant unto her and her newborns the solace of privacy."
Maximus nodded his head then raised his head and said in a commanding voice " Open the door at once now ".
Guards stationed outside without any delay or hesitation obeyed the command and opened the door
The door opened smoothly but instead of the warm and happiness they expected, all they saw was a dark room .
The window of the room was open and bed was empty , the only sign of life in that room were the sleeping newborn twins
Everyone was silent and the only one who interrupted that silence was Maximus who spoke with unhidden joy in his voice .
" Cartha , cartha I have come... "
He was only met with silence then he gestured at his assistant and asked about the present situation in front of them to which the assistant replied .
" Your Imperial Majesty , the room is dark , the windows are open but her imperial majesty the Empress is nowhere to be seen , the only brightness in this dark chamber are the twin newborns in the cradle completely oblivious to their surroundings "
Maximus then froze and absorbed the meaning of those words and then without a delay he instinctively grabbed the head physician behind him and said in a demanding voice
" Where is she and what is this about her having twins ? "
Head physician turned pale and said in a scared voice " your highness , I was ordered by her imperial majesty to keep it a secret "
" THUD "
Head physician fell and clutched his neck , no one moved to help him , he quickly adjusted himself and stood up while keeping his head down
Emperor then moved with the help of his assistant and reached the cradle
He then asked his assistant about what they looked like to which his assistant replied
"Both look just like your highness with same skin and hair but while the one on the left has silver irises , the one on the right has shining golden irises which are illuminating his surroundings "
Emperor then moved his hand to touch them both and gave both their respective names
The one with the golden irises was named Heinrich , the one on the left was named Maximillian .
This whole moment of naming felt sacred but it was shattered suddenly by the arrival of a new person in the room
" THUD "
Then a man barged through the doors , he was wearing a simple black coat but on the left side of his coat were three small stars made of gold
" Sorry for disturbing you , your Imperial Majesty but the Archperceptor require your presence along with your newborn child to his chamber "
With that without any delay he walked back , if it has been any other person he would had been executed for his offense of disturbing his majesty but strangely no one showed any sign of being offended as though it was completely normal
Emperor then straightened up and asked his assistant to lead him to the chamber of Archperceptor
Marcus then made a hand gesture and soon two maids Eliza and Mary came forward and each one picked a prince and followed behind the emperor
They walked for a few minutes through the grand corridors of the great palace until they reached a huge door which was towering over them , that door gave everyone a heavy feeling and then with a dramatic push the door was opened
The inside was a corridor, its air thick with a sharp metallic scent that clung to the lungs. Despite the darkness, the place carried the faint dignity of a forgotten temple . The moment they entered inside, an ancient corridor stretched forward, its stone worn smooth by time. It led to a wide balcony overlooking the heart of the chamber, with two stairways descending from either end
At the center of the lower floor stood an enormous steam cylinder made of glass and iron towering and heavy with iron bands and rivets. Inside it churned a strange liquid that glowed an eerie greenish-blue, its light pulsing faintly as though the chamber itself possessed a slow, mechanical heartbeat. The glow spread across the walls and pillars, casting restless reflections that danced along the metal and stone.
Just below the glass cylinder loomed a colossal face-shaped structure forged from dark metal, its expression rigid and covered with stiched wrinkled skin . Thick tubes and pipes extended from its surface, feeding into the cylinder and disappearing into the walls
Soon they all arrived in front of the stone faced structure and marcus in a loud voice said
" His imperial majesty has come here to pay his respect to the great Archperceptor of the empire ! "
Soon a loud engine voice came like a dead engine suddenly which suddenly came to life , with mechanical sound the eyes of the mechanical face opened
" Uhm , how many years has it been your majesty , oh you are still well I see maximus , my boy " the being said in a mechanical voice
This being that spoke was the Imperial Archperceptor , the wise Galvus who had this this title since the founding of Lorrenz Dynasty
" Archperceptor , cartha gave birth to twins and I also heard you requested my presence " replied maximus
" Oh yes yes , I wanted to see your offsprings and there is also a serious thing I wish to talk to you about " Galvus explained calmly
The great chamber fell silent once more as Galvus said these words in a calm but heavy tone
For a long moment the mechanical eyes of the colossal face studied the twins resting in the maids' arms.
Then the voice of Galvus echoed through the chamber again.
"Leave us."
The words were calm, yet carried the weight of command.
The soldiers and servants standing behind the Emperor stiffened.
"Everyone except Maximus , Marcus… and the two maids holding the twins shall leave "
A brief hesitation passed through the room before the guards and attendants bowed deeply.
"As you command, Archperceptor."
Heavy boots echoed against the stone as they departed the chamber one by one.
Soon only four figures remained before the ancient machine:
The blind Emperor Maximus II.
His loyal aide Marcus.
And the two trembling maids holding the newborn princes.
For several moments, Galvus said nothing.
The chamber was filled only with the low bubbling of the strange liquid inside the massive cylinder behind him.
Then the ancient voice spoke again.
"Bring the children closer."
Mary and Eliza exchanged nervous glances before stepping forward.
They carefully lifted the infants so the Archperceptor could see them clearly.
The metal eyes of the great face glowed faintly as they studied the twins.
Both maids then used their hands to forcefully open the delicate eyes so Galvus can see them clearly and despite that both twins remained asleep
First the silver-eyed child.
Then slowly… the golden-eyed one.
A long silence followed.
Then, unexpectedly, Galvus spoke again — but this time his voice was quieter.
"Maximus… remain calm before I speak further."
The Emperor's brow tightened beneath the cloth covering his eyes.
"Speak plainly, Archperceptor."
A slow mechanical sigh escaped the ancient machine.
"Long ago… before even your dynasty rose to power… a prophecy was recorded."
Marcus and the maids remained frozen as the ancient voice continued.
"The prophecy of the "Valkareth"."
The name seemed to linger heavily in the chamber.
"A being born when the darkness of the world reaches its peak… whose purpose is not to rule… but to destroy the old order so that a new one may rise from its ashes."
Maximus remained silent, though his hands slowly clenched behind his back.
"For centuries," Galvus continued, "I have devoted my existence to understanding this prophecy."
"The fall of kingdoms… the rise of empires… the cycles of war and peace…"
"My research has spanned generations."
The mechanical eyes shifted again toward the infants.
"And after centuries of study… I have reached a conclusion."
A pause.
"This year… is the year the Valkareth is destined to be born."
The words echoed across the chamber like a distant thunderclap.
Marcus visibly stiffened.
The maids looked at one another in confusion.
Maximus' voice came slowly.
"…And what does this have to do with my sons?"
Galvus did not answer immediately.
Instead his gaze settled once more upon the child in Eliza's arms.
The infant whose " shining golden irises" faintly illuminated the dim chamber.
"No child of this world should possess such eyes."
The words fell cold and heavy.
"The glow… the color… the unnatural brilliance."
"The signs align too perfectly."
Maximus stood completely still.
Then Galvus spoke the words that shattered the silence.
"There is a very high probability… that the child with the golden irises… is the Valkareth."
The chamber seemed to grow colder.
Even the humming machinery sounded distant.
Maximus slowly turned his head toward the direction of the child.
Though blind, it was clear his attention was fixed upon the golden-eyed infant.
For a moment… the Emperor said nothing.
Then Marcus heard the faintest whisper leave his lips.
"…My son, Heinrich?"
The maids looked terrified now.
The golden-eyed infant slept peacefully, unaware of the weight placed upon his existence.
Maximus' breathing grew heavier.
His hands trembled once… before he forced them still.
Then slowly… deliberately… he straightened his posture.
The Emperor spoke again, his voice steady but strained.
"If what you say is true… then tell me the solution."
The mechanical eyes of Galvus flickered.
" I know you would not under any circumstances let any harm come to your child so there is only one path."
"This child must be isolated from civilization "
Silence.
"The other twin will be declared the "First Prince of the Empire"."
"This child …"
A pause.
"…must be erased."
The word echoed harshly in the chamber.
"His existence will be forgotten."
"No records. No name. No history."
"He must live in isolation… far from the throne… far from the world."
Maximus stood unmoving.
The weight of the decision hung in the air like a blade.
Finally he spoke.
"…And this will stop the prophecy?"
Galvus answered calmly.
"If the Valkareth never sees the world … never sees the darkness of it … then maybe prophecy might never unfold."
A long silence followed.
Then Maximus slowly stepped forward.
Marcus guided him gently toward the maids.
Then Emperor stopped upon coming closer and said
"Which one…?"
Marcus whispered softly.
"The one on your right, Your Majesty."
"This is his imperial highness , Heinrich "
Maximus slowly raised his hands.
Carefully… almost hesitantly… he reached toward the infant's face.
His fingers brushed against the child's small cheek.
Soft.
Warm.
Alive.
The golden-eyed infant stirred slightly in his sleep.
Maximus traced the outline of his son's face with trembling fingers.
The tiny nose.
The small forehead.
The fragile warmth of a newborn life.
For a moment… the Emperor said nothing.
Only the low hum of the ancient machine filled the chamber.
And in the darkness, a blind father quietly felt the face of the son the world , the child who is destined to have a hard life full of suffering .
