Chapter 11 - 10. OULU SAGA: THE CRAZY TEMPLE

The Vikings moved straight to preparing the for the wedding that afternoon. John and Skullburn sat together facing the sunset as they talked about John's adventures in the outside world. It was a father son moment for them and no one dared disturb them.

Nickelye was now being faced down by the jotun. He had low chances of escaping the behemoth. He looked at Brill straight in the eye, that man showed no emotion for him. This was where his resolve finally sparked and he jumped between the jotun's legs to dive into the piles of gold. This time it was for a suitable weapon. He pulled out what looked like a saber made entirely of gold. He raised into the air and the crew looked disappointed. He swung an attack at the Jotun and this is where you realize why the crew looked disappointed in him. The punch and the saber collided but the saber broke like a piece of glass. Golden weapons are ornamental and have no use in actual battle. The Jotun's punch landed sending Nickeleye flying back and hitting the wall. He was really stuck in there because he looked like he was a part of the wall. He spat out blood in a torrent. He then fell to the ground fully understanding the gravity of his situation. His eyes darted around the room as the Jotun slowly approached him. Now Brill's attention actually shifted to serious. Nickeleye spotted an old rusty spear with hints of iron and steel. He quickly dashed for it and grabbed it before taking himself to a corner where there was a big puddle. The Jotun was now sick of playing around and saw that his prey was literally cornered. It charged at full speed.

The crew was now cheering him on. The jotun got to him and swung down on him at full force. Then blood started fill the puddle. The rest of the crew could not see what just transpired, all but the best sniper of the seven seas. He saw it in great detail as the puddle hardened to ice and surrounded the Jotun before Nickeleye stabbed it into the Jotun. The behemoth fell to the ground and died. Nickeleye shouted a yell of celebration. The rest of the pirates cheered together for him. All the gold plus the spear he had in hand disappeared into dust. Truly a trial made by the prince of lies. The barrier dropped he could now leave. He wasted no time leaving the room. He was received with hair rubs by the crew until he stood before Brill who was looking down on him, literally." God work kid. Next time, tell me you are better with a spear than a saber," said Brill going back to observe the altar.

Nickeleye smirked wildly and said," Aye sir!"

Brill looked at the altar crossly and asked himself why Odin's name was even there. He tapped it by choice of inspection and surprisingly, a hidden door behind the altar. The rest of the crew was in awe at Brill's handiwork but he had no time to admire his own work. He started to descend down the steps. This time they entered a room that generally had nothing but Rune [ markings of weird symbols or shapes that were used on weapons to give them added effects in Norse Mythology ]markings all over the walls and floor. The jewel rested on a mantle in the center of the room and it was practically asking to be stolen. To Brill, something felt off. His instincts were screaming at him but he knew not of it. He asked his men to survey the room. He himself looked at the ceiling which held a wyrm [ a type of dragon in Norse mythology ] statue. He then looked at the rune patterns and tried his hardest to understand them. Then a member on his unit came up to him. This man was called Scur. He was the crew's one and only member who could write and interpret runes to any degree. He was recruited to the crew for this skill and Brill himself scouted him for his squad.

Scur said," The runes are linked to the Jewel. As soon as the jewel is removed, the runes will take five seconds exactly to light up back to the wyrm statue which will come to life and attack us. A barrier similar to the earlier one will also most likely be deployed. What do you suppose we do boss?"

Brill looked at the situation for a second and thought up a plan fitting for the second hand of a pirate of Ian's caliber. He ordered all the members of his unit to go back to the entrance. He will remove the jewel and fire it at them within the five seconds countdown. From there, he will face the wyrm by himself. The others are to head straight for the Skull Diver and hand the jewel to Ian. That is the highest priority mission he gave them. The heard their orders and moved to it. Once they were in position, Brill pulled out the sphere of a jewel and loaded it into his musket. He then fired it within three seconds." Sweet, new record," he said with a smirk.

The jewel hit the steps and stuck itself there. The men proceeded to remove it as fast as they could. Then a roar filled the entire hall and even reached the rest of the crew. Nickeleye was paralyzed with fear where he stood. A barrier appeared at the entrance just as Scur had predicted. Nickeleye watched as the wyrm fell to the ground from the ceiling. The crew had to carry him out of the temple because the guy could not even hear them talking to him. They managed to leave the temple safely and started to traverse the dense jungle to get to the village but you do not want to hear about them.

Brill was face to face with the scaly beast and smirked. He loved it when the odds were drastically against him, it made his Norse blood boil. The beast prepared a breath attack but Brill was too fast for it and shot its throat with an ice bullet. It froze over causing the wyrm to backtrack in pain. Brill took the opportunity to attack it with his saber. He jumped and sliced at its back but the saber was nothing but a common weapon used by the other pirate crew members. That was when he remembered that he gave his mystic saber to the captain saying he wanted a challenge. He chuckled to himself before he was hit by the beasts tail. He flew to a wall and crashed straight into it. The wyrm managed to melt the ice and breathed a breath attack at Brill. Brill was ready to take it. He aimed both his muskets at the breath attack and fired relentlessly. The flames were slowly incased in ice. When the wyrm noticed this, it stopped. Then the flames were wrapped into a sphere of ice and condensed down to a pair small red bullets. The two fell to the ground to the shock of the wyrm. Brill jumped to the ground from the wall and picked up the bullets. He opened a special compartment in his muskets and there was already blue bullets. He loaded the new red ones as he said," Nice. I was looking for a wyrm to make my fire bullets. Shall we test out my new toys."

He aimed at the best and smirked. He shot the wyrm at constant rapid fire. The beast was being overwhelmed by his own flames. Then when the beast was disoriented, Brill got on the beast and crafted a rope attached to both his muskets and muzzled the the beast. He said," Let's go for a ride now scales."

He wrangled it and got the beast and got it to fly up towards the ceiling of the temple. it rammed right through it and out they were. It roared as loudly in the twilight alarming the entire island. He flew that thing straight into the village and at the last second used that same rope to decapitate the wyrm, crash landing at the smack dab center of the wedding ceremony. The shock was so great that no one loaded what just happened. He then walked up to the newly wed couple and congratulated them. When the chief finally clicked what just happened the, the skull diver was already off the port and Ian was long gone. He saw him at the dock and shouted," IAN!"

Ian turned around and gave a confident smirk as Brill and John carrying Astrid in a princess carry came past him.
