Chapter: New Year Secrets – Jay's POV

The New Year's Eve celebration at Section E's building had quieted down a bit. The fairy lights twinkled faintly, reflecting off the polished floor. Everyone was talking, laughing, and celebrating, but my mind wasn't on the party.

It was on him.

Keifer.

He was sitting across from me at the long table. His hand rested lightly near mine, his dark eyes watching me constantly, as if waiting for a single sign that I was okay. I wanted to reach out, to hold his hand, but my heart still felt tangled from everything that had happened—the engagement announcement, the fights, the fear that I might lose him again.

I finally settled into the chair, trying to steady my breathing.

"Jay," Keifer whispered softly, leaning slightly forward. "Are you okay?"

I nodded quickly, pretending my voice wasn't trembling. "I… I'm fine. Really."

But he wasn't fooled. He gave me that look—the one that saw straight through me, the one that made me feel like I could never hide anything from him.

I closed my eyes for a second, trying to calm myself. That's when I felt a hand take mine.

A firm, confident hand.

I opened my eyes to see Yuri sitting beside me. His fingers were intertwined with mine, and he gave me a small, almost smug smile.

"Yuri…" I murmured, confused and tense.

"Relax," he said softly, but his grip didn't loosen. "I just wanted to sit with you."

My heart raced, and I immediately felt Keifer tense beside me.

"Let go of her hand," he said quietly, his voice steady but low, like a warning.

Yuri didn't move. Instead, he leaned a little closer, his green eyes sparkling with defiance. "You don't have any right to tell me that. She's my fiancée," he said, his tone calm but sharp.

I froze.

Fiancée.

The word felt heavy in the air.

I could feel the tension growing, the entire table's attention slowly shifting toward us, although no one said a word yet. My grip on Yuri's hand tightened slightly, not because I wanted him, but because I was terrified of the chaos that could explode if I pulled away too suddenly.

Keifer's jaw tightened. His fingers flexed near his lap, his voice dangerously calm.

"She is with me," he said, every word deliberate, each one carrying the weight of possession and protection. "You don't touch her. You don't speak for her. And you… you don't decide anything for her."

Yuri's grin didn't falter. "Keifer, calm down. She's my fiancée. I have every right to sit beside her."

I felt my stomach twist.

"Fiancée," I whispered to myself. My lips trembled. "Fiancée… fiancée…"

I wanted to say something—anything—but my throat felt like it was closing. I looked down at our intertwined hands and slowly pulled my fingers back, trembling. I wanted neither of them to fight in front of me.

Keifer noticed immediately. His hand reached for mine again, this time to gently take it in his.

"I'm right here, Jay," he whispered, his thumb brushing against my knuckles. "I'm not letting anyone take you from me, not now, not ever."

The words made my chest ache. Relief washed over me, but it was laced with fear. Fear that no matter how much I wanted to trust him, things weren't that simple.

Yuri leaned closer again, voice low but teasing. "You're smiling at him too much. She's with me too, Keifer. Don't act like she doesn't care."

I wanted to scream. I wanted to throw my hands up and say, stop this! stop calling me your fiancée, stop trying to control me, stop!

But I didn't.

I looked at Keifer, who simply stared back, his expression unreadable yet filled with quiet fury. His hand squeezed mine slightly, a silent promise of protection.

"I… I don't want either of you to fight," I whispered, voice barely audible. "Please. I can't… I can't handle this tonight."

Keifer's grip on my hand tightened. "Then you won't. I promise. I won't let anyone hurt you tonight, Jay. You're mine, only mine."

I swallowed hard, my tears threatening to spill. I leaned slightly toward him, the warmth of his hand grounding me, reminding me of all the nights I had feared losing him.

Yuri let go of my hand suddenly, his eyes narrowing. "You always choose him," he said quietly, more a statement than a question.

I flinched at the honesty in his tone.

"Because I love him," I whispered, voice breaking. "I don't… I don't care about anyone else. I… I want him. Only him."

Keifer's eyes softened as he leaned closer, pressing his forehead against mine. "You don't have to say it again. I know. I've known since the beginning."

I felt the weight of everything lift slightly. His words, his presence—they reminded me that I wasn't alone. That no matter how much chaos surrounded us, we had each other.

Aries, standing across the room, caught sight of us. A small smirk tugged at his lips. "Trouble in paradise?" he muttered under his breath, but didn't intervene.

I couldn't help but notice Yuri's frustration. He sat back slightly, eyes glinting with irritation, but he didn't push further.

Keifer's hand brushed my hair back from my face, his touch gentle, grounding. "Ignore him," he whispered. "I'm right here. No one can take you away from me tonight. Do you understand?"

I nodded, pressing my face against his chest again, letting his warmth and steady heartbeat calm me.

For the first time since the engagement announcement, I felt like I could breathe.

Yuri's voice faded into the background, the laughter and chatter of the celebration distant. There was only Keifer, only his promise, only the safety I felt in his arms.

And in that moment, I knew, no matter what secrets, chaos, or heartbreak awaited, we would face it together.

I would never let him go.

And he would never let me go.

Forever, I thought.

Forever was his.

And my heart, trembling, broken, and scared, whispered back…

Forever mine.
