Chapter 42 - Delving Into The Telekinesis - Chapter 42

Marcus made a small camp for resting.

He sat down on the ground and started picking up some branches from the ground.

As he picked, he stopped and thought for a moment.

"There was a telekinesis spell in the Alteration school of magic."

"It is a proper spell, but I think what I know and my studies should be enough to use it."

"If flames and other novice spells are in the end, theories and starting points of the spells."

"Then, it is more than likely that telekinesis, lesser ward, and the Candlelight spell are the starting point of the Alteration school of magic."

"With my understanding of alteration, it must be possible."

Marcus stopped for a moment and then thought for a moment.

His eyes landed on one of the sticks that he wanted to pick up for fire; he then made a hand gesture, like grasping air.

It was intentional and also instinct-based; he did not think much about it.

"What is the general knowledge about telekinesis?" Marcus thought.

"It is simply mind over matter."

"Mentally commanding an object to move under commands of the mind of the caster."

"In the ordinary world, Earth, it was also researched heavily but deemed not possible."

"In this world, due to the existence of Magicka, it must be possible."

Marcus then started forming the plan within his mind.

He first thought about his studies with "Falion" and then thought a lot about it.

"Good."

After about five minutes, he closed his eyes and nodded.

"First."

"I mentally command Magicka to focus it on my hands."

"From my hands, it acts to perform my wishes."

"The simplicity of magic casting is there. State your wish, mentally command your magicka, and pay the needed magicka to achieve the effect and the wish.

Marcus then stopped thinking and then acted.

He willfully cast his magic, and then the stick that he targeted started flying toward him.

Its speed was normal, not fast and not too slow.

He took the stick and nodded.

"I spent about ten magicka points for this act."

"Each second of normal use of the telekinesis cost me five magicka points."

"If I were to use it to control a bigger object or increase the speed of the object to send it like a projectile."

"It would cost about ten magicka per second."

"Compared to existing spells of destruction and other things, using it for attacking purposes does not make sense."

"It depends on the circumstances."

Marcus thought.

He then took all the stick pieces and then lit up a fire and sat down.

He ate some of the snacks and then focused his mind on the matter of telekinesis.

It would be pretty great to master this ability and use of magic; it would help a lot in many kinds of situations, more than it would be useful for a fight.

-

Marcus started focusing more and more.

"Now."

He first targeted a stone that is not connected to the ground.

Its weight must be around 20 kg.

Compared to a stick, it is much harder to act on this.

"Let's try."

He did the same thing, and then the stone started levitating up to the air and slowly came to his side.

"Okay."

"I get the reasoning behind it."

Marcus also understood why mages in the world of Skyrim did not use telekinesis for most purposes.

It is a theoretical learning spell that makes sense but is too costly.

"Why does it cost too much to use telekinesis?" he asked himself.

Even with his understanding of alteration, the casting of telekinesis was still too much for him to understand.

Creating a fire out of nothing, or cold, or conjuring a spirit familiar all costs less and is more useful than such a use of magic.

"Maybe."

"It is about internal use of magicka and concentration."

"When I use telekinesis, I am using magicka to start casting and then keep feeding it magicka to power my mental command and to achieve the effect of "manipulating objects with mind."

Marcus thought and forced himself to find an answer.

He then said.

"It is about internal separation of magic from the source."

"When I cast 'Flames' or 'Ward,' the spell is formed close to me, and the distance is pretty close, and there is no need for separation of Magicka to perform the effect I want."

"It directly funnels through my body, my spirit to my arms, and then forms the effect just after it leaves my body."

"While, with the use of telekinesis, I separate my magicka and then give it a purpose and then send it to the target and then cover it with magicka to bring it out to me."

Marcus nodded.

"I got it."

"I understand."

Marcus got the meaning behind the telekinesis and why it cost too much and was not practical to use.

"There are too many applications of mental commands and steps involved."

"If I were to make some mental map of it. Comparing the differences between telekinesis and the Flames spell."

"It would be like this."

"Flames—& Wish to create flames, extend hand for funneling, pay the cost of magicka, and then fire manifests. Keep paying a small amount of magicka to keep the flame."

"Telekinesis & Wish to move an object from a distance without touching (speed and weight are not included): pay the cost of magicka to cast the spell, pay the cost of magicka to form a magicka hand, some sort of invisible grasping hand, pay the cost of magicka to move it, pay to hold the object and levitate..."

Marcus stopped.

"Huh."

"I need some paper and notes for this."

"If I can find a better way to achieve the same effect with manipulation of magicka, the cost will be greatly reduced, and using it would be practical."
