Morning came too fast.
Lin Yue woke to sunlight streaming through the curtains and the sound of Auriel crying from the nursery. She sat up, blinking. The other side of the bed was empty. Uriel was already gone.
She pushed back the covers and walked down the hall. Papillion was already in the nursery, lifting Auriel from his crib.
"I heard him from my room," the butterfly hybrid said, cradling him against her chest. "I was just about to bring him to you."
Lin Yue took her son. "Thank you."
She carried Auriel back to the bedroom and fed him, the baby nursing contentedly. His gold eyes stared up at her, his tiny hand pressed against her skin. When he finished, she lifted him to her shoulder and patted his back until a small burp escaped.
Then she bathed him in the small tub, washing his platinum curls with lavender soap. He kicked and cooed, splashing water onto her nightgown. She didn't mind.
