(MASON'S POV)
I was completely shocked. My mouth opened, closed, then opened again. Words wouldn't come out. My face felt like it was on fire, burning hotter than the stove had been earlier.
Hold his hands? Hug him?
My brain short-circuited, and all I could do was stand there staring at him, heart hammering so loud I was sure he could hear it.
Blue sighed, looking sad. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have asked that." He walked past me into the living room, shoulders a little slumped, leaving me standing there in the kitchen in full panic mode.
My heart was already hammering. 'Wait—don't go like that!'
I followed him quickly, voice coming out way higher than I meant. "I'm not refusing!" I called after him. "I mean… I'm not saying no."
Inside my head, that tiny, hopeful voice from earlier squealed: 'Oh my god, oh my god! He wants you to hug him. He wants your hands on him. This is actually happening!'
