(MASON'S POV)
I watched as my grandmother told my mother with tears in her eyes that her father had taken her case before the Elven Council, accused her of consorting with dark forces. I watched as my grandmother told my mother that she was sentenced to execution. I watched as her mother—my grandmother—intervened, and hid my mother away in a remote hut in the middle of a thick forest.
I watched as my mother, alone and terrified, was left in that hut.
And then I watched her give birth.
It was only seven days after she had gotten pregnant.
The pregnancy was short, almost impossibly short. One moment she was pregnant, crying in pain. The next, she was in a long labor, and the next she was holding a baby in her arms—a baby with golden hair and pointed ears and eyes that glowed like miniature suns.
"That's Liam." My mother announced to everyone watching with a big smile and pride in her voice.
