Chapter 1 - Unnamed

The Last 72 Hours

Chapter 1: The Recording

Rain fell in thin silver lines over the small town. Streetlights flickered as if they were tired of staying awake.

Arjun pulled his school bag tighter against his shoulder. Tuition had ended late again. His phone battery was at 12%.

"Perfect," he muttered.

He took the shortcut road near the old brick factory — a place everyone avoided at night. It was darker, but faster.

As he walked past the broken gate, voices echoed from inside.

Low. Serious. Angry.

He slowed down.

A black SUV stood near the warehouse. Its headlights were off, but the engine was running.

Curiosity pulled him closer.

He didn't mean to spy. He just wanted to see who would meet in a place like this at 9:30 PM.

He hid behind a half-broken wall.

Three men stood under a dim hanging bulb.

One of them looked familiar.

His tuition teacher.

Arjun's heartbeat froze.

Without thinking, he opened his phone camera and pressed record.

The voices became clearer.

"…shipment will move Friday."

"…police won't interfere."

"…the boy doesn't know anything."

The boy?

Arjun swallowed.

Suddenly, a loud metallic sound echoed behind him.

He had stepped on a rusted tin sheet.

The men stopped talking.

Silence.

"Who's there?" one of them shouted.

Arjun didn't breathe.

Footsteps moved toward his direction.

He slowly backed away, then turned and ran.

He didn't stop until he reached the main road.

When he finally looked back—

The SUV headlights were on.

And it was facing his direction.

Chapter 2: The Message

The next morning felt normal.

Too normal.

At school, his best friend Ritam avoided him. Didn't sit beside him. Didn't talk.

Strange.

During lunch break, Arjun checked the video.

His hands trembled.

The recording was clear.

His tuition teacher's face. The black SUV number plate. The entire conversation.

This was serious.

Very serious.

Then his phone buzzed.

Unknown Number.

He ignored it.

Buzz again.

A message appeared.

"You have 72 hours. Delete the video. Or disappear."

His throat dried instantly.

How did they know?

He checked the video again.

It was gone.

Deleted.

He didn't delete it.

He never touched it.

His breathing became shallow.

Another message came.

"Do not act smart."

He looked around.

Were they watching him?

Across the school field, a black SUV stood outside the gate.

Chapter 3: Trust No One

That evening, Arjun locked himself inside his room.

He tried to recover the deleted file.

Nothing.

It was as if the video never existed.

He heard his parents talking downstairs.

His mother said, "Did someone come asking about Arjun?"

His father replied, "Just a man asking about tuition timings."

Arjun's heart pounded.

Later that night, his cousin Rahul came to visit.

Rahul worked for a "transport company."

He always drove expensive cars.

"Everything okay?" Rahul asked casually.

His smile felt different.

Sharp.

Observing.

Arjun forced a nod.

When Rahul left, Arjun noticed something.

The same black SUV was parked at the end of the lane.

Rahul got inside it.

The world tilted.

His own cousin.

Chapter 4: The Truth Behind the Boy

Next day, tuition teacher didn't come.

School principal announced he was "out of town."

Ritam finally spoke to Arjun.

"You should stay quiet," Ritam whispered.

"What?"

"I heard my father talking. Big people are involved. If someone saw something… they won't let him live peacefully."

Arjun felt cold.

Why was everyone talking about "someone"?

Why did the men say, "the boy doesn't know anything"?

That night, Arjun received a final message:

"48 hours left."

He couldn't just sit and wait.

He opened his laptop.

If the video was deleted, maybe it was auto-synced somewhere.

He checked hidden cloud backups.

There.

A partial corrupted file.

30 seconds only.

But clear enough.

Faces visible.

Audio strong.

He copied it into a pen drive.

But something felt wrong.

Why would powerful people fear a random Class 10 boy?

Unless…

He wasn't random.

He searched his father's old files.

And found something shocking.

His father had once filed a complaint against illegal transport businesses years ago.

Case closed mysteriously.

The same surname.

The same people.

They knew who Arjun was.

They had been watching his family for years.

Chapter 5: The Final Move

24 hours left.

The SUV followed him openly now.

He pretended not to notice.

That night, rain poured heavily again.

Same weather.

Same darkness.

Arjun left home quietly with the pen drive hidden inside his shoe.

He didn't go to the police station.

He went somewhere smarter.

The cyber café near the railway station.

He uploaded the video anonymously to multiple email IDs.

He scheduled it to send automatically to news channels if anything happened to him.

Then he sent one final message to the unknown number:

"Check tomorrow's news."

Seconds later—

His phone rang.

"Listen carefully," a cold voice said. "You think you're brave?"

Arjun didn't reply.

The line went silent.

The next morning—

Local news exploded.

"Secret illegal transport network exposed."

Arrests began.

Including his tuition teacher.

Including Rahul.

The black SUV was seized.

But something remained strange.

The news reporter said,

"The footage appears to be from a CCTV camera inside the warehouse."

Arjun froze.

CCTV camera?

He never went inside.

He was outside the wall.

He slowly opened the saved file again.

In the reflection of a broken window—

He saw himself.

Standing inside the warehouse.

Recording from just a few feet away.

Not from outside.

His breathing stopped.

Had he blacked out?

Or…

Was he closer to them than he ever realized?

Ending Line

The countdown had ended.

But the real thriller of his life had just begun.
