Chapter 1 - The Darkness Before the Scream

One dull day, like any other day of the week,

Lianne walked along the damp pavement after a long evening, her bag slung over her shoulder, her head slightly downward, trying to avoid looking into the faces of the passersby. The air was cold, heavy with the scent of old rain and the city, and the sound of her footsteps echoed on the asphalt like a faint pulse in a silent world.

At first, there was nothing unusual, except for an inexplicable feeling of fear, a sensation like a cold fist pressing against her chest. She tried to ignore it, dismissing it as mere exhaustion or a momentary obsession.

Then she noticed a shadow moving quickly on the wall of the building opposite. Just a moment, and the shadow disappeared before she could focus. Her heart pounded, but her mind refused to acknowledge the danger.

At a tight corner, there was a faint sound, like metal falling on the pavement, a faint echo whose source she couldn't pinpoint. She turned slowly, her eyes searching for any movement, any light, any shape.

Then something happened suddenly. She felt a sharp dizziness, as if the ground had vanished beneath her feet. Something quick and cold grazed her shoulder, then a powerful jolt behind her neck sent her reeling. She didn't fall completely, but her eyes closed involuntarily.

It was total darkness after that. She could hear only her own heartbeat and the terrifying sound of her breathing. She tried to open her eyes, but couldn't. Then she felt a force lift her forward, then pull her into an unknown place.

After what seemed like an eternity, she opened her eyes to find herself on a cold, hard surface, bathed in a harsh white light. Everything around her was clean, austere, devoid of any sign of normal life. The air was dry, metallic, and had a strange taste, and the sound of heavy footsteps echoed through the large room.

She wasn't alone. In a far corner, a tall young man, his hair almost covering his eyes, sat silently. He didn't move, didn't smile, didn't say a word. He seemed to know everything about this place, yet he watched her with deadly patience. His head movements were slow and deliberate; he didn't seem to be doing anything, yet he gave the impression that he knew everything about the place and about her. Her hair stood on end from a strange sense of awe, as if his mere presence was sending warning signals to every nerve in her body.

Finally, he broke the silence with a low voice, quiet but sharp as a knife:

"You're...new here, aren't you?"

A shiver ran down her spine. She didn't know what to say; every word caught in her throat. Finally, she whispered,

"Yes...who are you? What...what's going on here?"

Arian slowly raised his head, as if considering each word before speaking:

"This isn't a place for questions. You won't understand...until you've lived every second of it."

There was something about his voice that made the air around her feel heavy. It wasn't just words; it was a warning, an experience, a shared secret they hadn't yet known each other for.

Despite her fear, Lian tried to raise her voice:

"But...why are we here? Why me?" Aryan paused for a long moment, then gestured slowly around them, his eyes almost hidden beneath his hair.

"The organization takes those no one values… those no one would miss if they disappeared. We… are just… numbers."

His words were cold, but they carried something else: bitterness, fear, and unwavering patience.

Lianne felt a mixture of surprise and horror: the idea that her life had no value in this world was shocking.

Aryan gestured with his hand, as if to convey some unspoken plan, then continued,

"Don't try to resist. All you can do now… is survive, one step at a time. And… perhaps… cooperate with me."

This was their first contact.

Lianne noticed something else: despite the coldness in his voice, there was something about him that said he, too, was afraid… but more accustomed to danger than she was. His movements were deliberate, and every breath he took suggested complete control, not just of himself, but of everything around him. Silence returned to fill the space, but this time it wasn't just emptiness. The weight of life and death hung in the air, watching every movement and every heartbeat. Layan's heart raced, but it wasn't just fear; it was a vague feeling that this place, this young man, was changing everything around her, even before she knew what was happening.

Everything was unknown… and everything was dangerous.
