"The big one is coming!" Suren roared at Riveria and Alise, his hands once again white-knuckled around the hilt of Pale Justice.
The blade hummed with a familiar resonance, greedily siphoning the mana from his body. A single Fireball wasn't enough; he needed... at least two to cover a wider area! Ignoring the need for fine control, Suren channeled his mana with near-brutal force, pouring it through the longsword to shape and mold the spell.
"Fireball—Metamagic: Upcast, Maximize!" he bellowed, thrusting Pale Justice toward the densest cluster of monsters ahead.
BOOM—!!!
An ear-splitting explosion rocked the cavern! A mushroom cloud of pale and crimson flames surged toward the ceiling. The violent heatwave and shockwave instantly incinerated the monsters at the epicenter. But it still wasn't enough! There were too many of them, and more were surging forward from the rear!
The metallic taste of blood rose in Suren's throat and his eyes turned bloodshot as he squeezed out every remaining drop of energy.
"Fireball—Metamagic: Upcast, Empower!"
A second massive orb of fire detonated. The overlapping kill zones of the two upcasted Fireballs created a terrifying land of death, forcibly severing the advance of the surging monster tide.
"Move! We have to go now!" Alise practically dragged Suren as they began their retreat.
The group took advantage of the chaos to flee back to the surface. Suren was completely prostrated, his mental faculties exhausted from the extreme overexertion of his Mind. After parting ways with the Loki Familia at the gates of Babel, Riveria and Ais returned to the Twilight Manor to report to Finn and Loki.
Riveria held Suren in incredibly high regard. "A Level 2 body unleashing magical destruction that rivals a Level 1... no, a Level 5."
Loki was outwardly annoyed that she hadn't managed to scout such a promising talent, but she was more concerned about the Dark Faction's audacity—using the "God of Death" Thanatos to manufacture a Black Monster within the city's depths.
Meanwhile, back at the Astraea Familia headquarters, Suren updated his status with the help of his Goddess.
