Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 — The Heart in the Middle

The apartment was unusually quiet.

Not the peaceful quiet that usually followed a long day, when everyone slowly drifted toward sleep or curled up together on the couch.

This silence felt heavier.

Thicker.

The argument from earlier still hung in the air like a storm that hadn't fully passed.

Hoseok sat alone on the balcony.

The night air was cool against his skin, the city lights stretching endlessly beyond the railing. Normally he loved this view. It reminded him that the world was wide and full of possibility.

Tonight it just made him feel small.

Inside the apartment, he could hear faint voices—low murmurs as the others talked quietly.

About him.

About everything.

Hoseok rested his arms on the railing and stared down at the street below.

For the first time in a long while, doubt had crept into his mind.

Not doubt about their love.

But doubt about his place.

He had always been the balance.

The emotional bridge between the alphas' strength and the omegas' sensitivity.

But sometimes being the bridge meant standing alone in the middle.

The balcony door slid open behind him.

Hoseok didn't turn immediately.

He already knew who it was.

Namjoon stepped beside him.

For a moment neither of them spoke.

"I'm sorry," Namjoon said quietly.

Hoseok shook his head.

"You didn't do anything wrong."

"This started because of my project."

"This started because we're seven emotional people trying to figure out life together," Hoseok replied gently.

Namjoon studied his face carefully.

"You're still hurting."

Hoseok smiled faintly.

"I'll survive."

Namjoon leaned on the railing beside him.

"You shouldn't have to 'survive' in your own relationship."

The words landed softly but deeply.

Hoseok didn't respond right away.

After a moment he said quietly,

"Sometimes I wonder if being the beta makes it easier for everyone to forget I have insecurities too."

Namjoon frowned.

"No one forgot that."

"Maybe not intentionally."

Hoseok looked back toward the apartment through the glass door.

"Everyone relies on me to keep things stable."

"That's because you're good at it."

"But who stabilizes me?"

Namjoon opened his mouth to answer.

But before he could—

The balcony door opened again.

This time it was Jimin.

Behind him stood Taehyung.

Both omegas looked nervous.

Jimin stepped forward slowly.

"Hobi…"

Hoseok turned toward them.

Taehyung's voice was quiet.

"Can we talk?"

Hoseok nodded.

They stepped onto the balcony.

The space suddenly felt smaller with four people standing there.

Jimin looked down at his hands.

"I shouldn't have accused you earlier."

Hoseok softened immediately.

"You were scared."

"That doesn't make it fair."

Taehyung spoke next.

"We thought you were choosing Namjoon over us."

Hoseok blinked slightly.

"Over you?"

Jimin nodded.

"You always take care of us."

"But tonight it felt like you were on the other side."

Hoseok sighed gently.

"I wasn't on any side."

Taehyung leaned against the railing.

"We know that now."

Jimin hesitated before stepping closer to Hoseok.

"You're the person we run to when things feel uncertain."

Hoseok smiled faintly.

"I know."

"But we forgot you might feel uncertain too."

Hoseok didn't answer.

Instead he looked at the city again.

After a moment he said quietly,

"Being the only beta sometimes feels like standing between two worlds."

Jimin tilted his head.

"What do you mean?"

"The alphas carry responsibility and ambition."

Namjoon shifted slightly beside him.

"And the omegas carry emotional sensitivity."

Taehyung nodded slowly.

"And you carry both."

Hoseok gave a small laugh.

"Sometimes it feels like that."

The balcony door opened once more.

Jungkook stepped outside.

Behind him came Yoongi and Jin.

Now all seven of them stood together.

The air felt tense again.

But this time no one raised their voice.

Jungkook crossed his arms.

"Are we finally going to talk properly?"

Jin nodded.

"Yes. All of us."

Yoongi leaned against the wall.

"Before this misunderstanding gets worse."

Hoseok looked around at them.

"What else is there to say?"

Jungkook answered immediately.

"A lot."

He stepped closer.

"You think we only see you as the emotional caretaker."

Hoseok shrugged.

"Tonight it kind of felt like that."

Jungkook shook his head.

"You're wrong."

Yoongi added calmly,

"Completely wrong."

Jin crossed his arms.

"Hoseok, do you know what this relationship would look like without you?"

Hoseok hesitated.

"Probably quieter."

"Chaos," Jungkook corrected.

"Total chaos."

Taehyung nodded dramatically.

"We'd argue every day."

Jimin added,

"And no one would mediate."

Namjoon spoke softly.

"You're not just the balance."

Hoseok looked at him.

"Then what am I?"

For a moment no one answered.

Then Yoongi spoke.

"You're the center."

Hoseok blinked.

"The center?"

Yoongi nodded.

"Alphas and omegas create tension naturally."

Jungkook added,

"It's instinct."

"But you soften that instinct," Yoongi continued.

"You connect us."

Jin smiled slightly.

"You're the glue."

Taehyung grinned.

"The heart."

Jimin nodded.

"The safe place."

Hoseok stared at them.

He wasn't sure what to say.

Namjoon stepped forward last.

"You're the reason this relationship works."

Hoseok's voice came out barely above a whisper.

"That's a lot of pressure."

"It's not pressure," Namjoon replied.

"It's appreciation."

Hoseok rubbed the back of his neck.

"But sometimes it feels like I'm invisible until someone needs emotional help."

Jungkook stepped closer suddenly.

"Hobi."

Hoseok looked at him.

"You're not invisible."

Jungkook gently grabbed his wrist.

"Look around."

Hoseok did.

Six pairs of eyes stared back at him.

Concern.

Love.

Guilt.

Devotion.

Jimin suddenly wrapped his arms around Hoseok's waist.

"I hate that we made you feel like this."

Taehyung joined the hug from the other side.

"You deserve attention too."

Jin sighed dramatically and wrapped his arms around all three of them.

"Group hug therapy."

Yoongi groaned.

"This is getting crowded."

But he stepped forward anyway.

Namjoon joined next.

Jungkook came last, laughing quietly.

Soon Hoseok found himself surrounded by six warm bodies.

The balcony felt impossibly full.

Hoseok laughed weakly.

"Okay… I can't breathe."

"Good," Taehyung said.

"You're trapped."

Jimin squeezed him tighter.

"You're not allowed to doubt your importance again."

Hoseok smiled despite himself.

"I'll try."

After a moment the group slowly loosened.

But no one moved far away.

Namjoon leaned against the railing again.

"There's still the project problem."

Jungkook groaned.

"Right."

Taehyung crossed his arms.

"So what do we do?"

Yoongi shrugged.

"We adapt."

Jin nodded.

"We always do."

Jimin looked at Hoseok.

"What do you want?"

The question surprised him.

"What I want?"

"Yes," Jimin said gently.

"Hobi, you never answer that question."

Hoseok thought for a moment.

Then he spoke honestly.

"I want everyone to chase their dreams."

Namjoon watched him carefully.

"But?"

Hoseok smiled softly.

"But I also want us to stay connected."

Taehyung nodded slowly.

"We can do both."

Jungkook grinned.

"Technology exists."

Yoongi added,

"And flights."

Jin pointed dramatically.

"Long-distance romance."

Namjoon chuckled.

"You're all surprisingly supportive now."

Jimin shrugged.

"We just needed to process."

Taehyung leaned his head on Hoseok's shoulder again.

"And apologize to the most important person."

Hoseok rolled his eyes slightly.

"You're exaggerating."

Yoongi smirked.

"Not really."

For the first time since the argument began, the tension truly faded.

Warmth returned.

Comfort settled back into place.

Seven people standing together beneath the night sky.

Seven hearts slowly finding balance again.

Hoseok looked around at them.

Maybe he wasn't just the bridge between worlds.

Maybe he was something stronger.

The center that held them together.

And tonight had reminded them all of that.
