The black SUV was still chasing them.
Emma's heart was beating so fast that she could barely breathe.
"Are they really following us?" she asked nervously.
Adrian glanced at the mirror.
"Yes."
His voice was calm, but his eyes were sharp.
Emma gripped the seat tightly.
"Why are they after me? I don't understand anything!"
Adrian suddenly turned the car into a narrow road.
The rain was getting heavier, and the road was almost empty.
For a moment, the SUV disappeared from behind.
Adrian finally slowed down the car.
Emma let out a deep breath.
"I think they're gone…"
But before she could finish her sentence, the car suddenly stopped.
Emma looked at him in confusion.
"Why did you stop?"
Adrian didn't answer.
Instead, he turned toward her.
For the first time, Emma noticed how close they were.
Very close.
She could hear his breathing.
Her heart started beating even faster.
"Emma," Adrian said softly.
"Yes?"
"You shouldn't trust me."
Emma blinked in surprise.
"Why?"
Adrian looked directly into her eyes.
"Because the more you stay with me… the more dangerous your life will become."
Emma felt something strange in her chest.
Fear… and something else she couldn't explain.
"But you're still protecting me," she whispered.
Adrian stayed silent for a moment
Then he slowly reached out and gently moved a strand of wet hair away from her face.
Emma froze.
The touch was soft… but it made her heart race.
"You're different from what I expected," Adrian said quietly.
Emma looked into his eyes.
"And what did you expect?"
Adrian leaned slightly closer.
For a moment, it felt like the whole world had stopped.
But suddenly—
A loud gunshot echoed in the night.
Emma gasped in shock.
The rear window of the car shattered.
Adrian immediately grabbed her hand.
"We have to move. Now."
Emma's heart was still racing.
But this time…
She wasn't sure if it was because of fear—
Or because of Adrian.
