Second Ability: The Birth of a New Manga World
When a manga artist's work is published in a manga magazine for the first time, they will randomly obtain one clearly-conceived thing that already existed in their mind for that manga world (including abilities, knowledge, and items). Each manga work can only trigger this once.
The more famous the magazine company, and the better the placement of the work within the magazine, the higher the tier of what is obtained.
Third Ability: A Hit Manga
The more the work is recognized and chased after by readers—the more people like it (or the bigger its reputation), and the higher its sales and sales ratio—the more abilities, knowledge, and items the manga artist can obtain from that manga world, and the higher their quality.
Fourth Ability: Hunger for Updates (The Grudge of Being Asked to Update)
The stronger the readers' desire to see more, and the stronger their resentment toward slow updates, the more abilities, knowledge, and items can be obtained—and the higher their tier.
Fifth Ability: The World's Finale
When a manga work ends, based on how popular it was during serialization and how the public reacts after it ends, the manga artist will obtain three random things from that manga world.
Ability Restrictions:
- The manga work must be recognized by the general public.
- It must be created solely by the user alone.
- No plagiarism, no copying, no "inspiration" from others' work.
- It must be created specifically in manga form.
- The initial publication reward can only be obtained if the work earns its magazine placement due to quality.
If the quality declines midway and causes a certain number of readers to become dissatisfied, then the abilities, knowledge, and items obtained from the work will decrease—dropping in tier, or even resulting in no gain at all.
If the work is abandoned mid-serialization or ends in a disastrous, ruined finish, then everything obtained from that work will be reclaimed, and the author will receive a punishment depending on how severe the situation is.
Nen ability?!
Right—given Roy's fanatical, obsessive fixation on manga, it made perfect sense for him to develop Nen.
Everyone gives off tiny amounts of life energy, but most people unconsciously allow it to leak away.
The power to freely control the life energy emitted from the human body—also called aura—and to use that aura for offense or defense, is called "Nen."
Learning this technique is also a requirement to become a true Hunter. Nen can be trained through "Ren," and anyone can potentially learn it. But to prevent it from being used by evil forces, it's usually treated as a technique that people won't easily reveal.
So Roy learning Nen was perfectly normal.
And Roy's talent was truly shocking. It's not like there are no people who awaken Nen at sixteen—but there definitely aren't many!
Sure, Killua and Gon awakened Nen at around twelve or thirteen… but their talent, plus the training they received from childhood, simply wasn't something Roy could compare to.
One had a father—Ging Freecss—recognized as one of the world's five greatest Nen users, and an elder ancestor—Don Freecss—who still walks the Dark Continent to this day, his true strength unfathomable.
The other was the most gifted prodigy the world's most famous assassin organization had produced in generations, trained from childhood in countless killer techniques.
That was completely different from Roy—an orphan who grew up being abused in an Orphanage.
