Chapter 4 – The Cold Penthouse

The morning sun had barely risen over Dhaka, casting pale golden rays across the city skyline.

Meherin stirred under the soft sheets, the unfamiliar luxury of the penthouse pulling her slowly into awareness. For a moment, she couldn't even remember where she was—then last night's events came rushing back: the sudden marriage, the media frenzy, and the dangerous attack orchestrated by someone she didn't even know yet.

Her heartbeat quickened at the memory.

Slowly, she swung her legs over the edge of the king-sized bed and walked toward the balcony.

The cold morning air brushed against her skin. Below, the city was awakening, the cars crawling through the streets like tiny ants. And yet, in this vast penthouse, everything felt unreal—detached from the chaos outside, but closer than ever to the man she had married just hours ago.

"Good morning," a deep voice echoed behind her.

Meherin turned sharply. Ryan Khan stood by the doorway, his black shirt slightly unbuttoned, hair tousled—a rare glimpse of something unguarded.

"Good morning," she replied softly, still trying to make sense of her surroundings.

Ryan's gray eyes lingered on her, sharp yet assessing.

"You didn't sleep well," he stated flatly.

"I did," she lied, frowning.

"Your eyes say otherwise," he countered, walking toward her slowly, each step measured.

Meherin felt a strange tension. She could sense the warmth radiating from him as he drew closer. She instinctively took a step back.

"Can we just… talk normally?" she asked, trying to assert herself.

Ryan smirked faintly.

"Have we ever talked abnormally?"

His presence was overwhelming, a mixture of dominance and a subtle invitation.

Her cheeks flushed.

She shook her head, trying to regain composure.

"You always need to control everything, don't you?" she said, more as a question than a complaint.

Ryan's eyes darkened, serious now.

"Because when you lose control… people die."

Meherin froze. Something about the tone chilled her. This wasn't just arrogance or business bravado—it was a warning. A piece of his past lingered in the words. A shadow she couldn't yet understand.

Breakfast and Reality

The dining area was spacious, with polished oak floors and sunlight streaming in through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

A tray of food had been set out: toast, fresh fruit, coffee. Meherin hesitated before taking a seat.

"So much for a normal breakfast," she muttered.

Ryan lifted his cup, eyes fixed on her.

"You're Mrs. Khan now. Everything about you will be analyzed. Every photo, every gesture, every word."

Meherin blinked, surprised.

"Even my breakfast?"

"Yes," he said casually. "Eat."

She sighed and began eating, the reality of her situation sinking in. She was no longer just a girl from a middle-class family. She was now the wife of Ryan Khan, a man whose enemies were as powerful as his own empire.

Discovery

After breakfast, Meherin wandered through the penthouse, curiosity battling her unease.

That's when she noticed it: a small black camera tucked in the corner of the hallway.

Her heart skipped a beat. She quickly checked the opposite wall—another camera.

"This… this is insane!" she exclaimed, running toward Ryan.

"Cameras?" she demanded.

Ryan's calm, measured tone didn't waver.

"Security," he said simply.

"I'm not a prisoner!" she snapped.

"You are safer because of it," he replied, shrugging lightly.

Meherin stared at him, incredulous. "This is madness!"

Ryan's gray eyes softened for a moment—a fleeting emotion.

"It's the rule of survival," he said quietly.

An Unexpected Call

Her phone buzzed. Her father. Relief washed over her.

"Baba!" she cried.

"Meherin! The bank… they've cleared the loan!" his voice boomed with joy.

She froze. "Wait… what?"

"He told me the money is gone through," Ryan said quietly from across the room, casually sipping his coffee.

Meherin's mind raced. Did he use his own money? Did he…

Ryan met her gaze calmly, as if reading her thoughts. "According to the contract," he said.

Her lips curled into a small, reluctant smile. "You're not so bad after all."

Ryan's gaze softened just for a second, hiding a depth of secrets beneath it. "Don't rush this decision," he warned.

The Twist

Suddenly, a piercing alarm echoed through the penthouse.

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

Meherin jumped. "What now?!"

Ryan's face hardened instantly. He moved to the window, scanning the streets below. Several black SUVs had stopped in front of the building.

"They're here," he said, voice low and dangerous.

Meherin felt her chest tighten. "Who?"

Ryan didn't answer. Instead, he pulled her closer. "Stay with me."

Ryan's Dark Side

The penthouse suddenly felt smaller, the tension thicker. Ryan Khan moved to the hall, drawing a pistol from a hidden holster.

Meherin's heart raced.

"You have a gun?" she gasped.

"Because my enemies aren't polite," he said. His voice dropped, cold. Deadly.

"And neither am I."

The proximity, the danger, the smell of him—it was intoxicating, terrifying.

Suddenly, Meherin stumbled. Ryan caught her immediately. His hand on her waist, her chest pressed against his.

Their eyes locked. Breaths mingled. A new, dangerous attraction simmered between them—unspoken, undeniable.

"Are you okay?" he asked softly.

"Yes…" she whispered.

His fingers lingered. A moment stretched into eternity.

Then—BAM!

The outer door of the penthouse was struck violently.

Ryan shoved her toward the safe room. "Inside! Now!"

Meherin grabbed his hand. "Wait! Don't go alone!"

Ryan paused for a brief moment. Something softened in his eyes. "You care for me," he said quietly.

She flushed. "I—"

"Close the door," he interrupted, his voice firm, and then he turned back to face the threat, gun ready. His enemies didn't know it yet—they had just made the gravest mistake of their lives.

🔥 Cliffhanger

The safe room door clicked shut behind her.

Meherin's heart pounded. Outside, chaos waited.

But inside, a different danger had emerged—the magnetic, dangerous closeness of Ryan Khan.

Her hand trembled as she realized something terrifying and thrilling:

She was falling for a man she barely knew… a man whose life was a war zone.
