Chapter 79 - Chapter 79: Official

Morning light filtered gently through the blinds.

The room felt warm.

Quiet.

Peaceful.

Lillian sat propped up against the pillows, the blanket loosely around her shoulders.

She still looked a little pale, but the fever had clearly broken.

Sebastian sat beside the bed.

Close.

Watching her.

His elbow rested on the mattress while his fingers lazily traced circles on the back of her hand.

Lillian noticed.

Her cheeks warmed slightly.

She still wasn't used to this version of Sebastian.

The gentle one.

The one who stayed all night.

The one who looked at her like she mattered.

She glanced up at him again.

"Sebastian?"

His blue eyes shifted to hers immediately.

"Yes?"

His voice was low.

Soft.

She hesitated.

Her fingers tightened slightly in the blanket.

"There's… something I wanted to ask."

His eyebrow lifted slightly.

"That sounds serious."

She gave a small nervous laugh.

"It's not serious."

He tilted his head.

"Then why are you looking like you're about to negotiate a peace treaty?"

She rolled her eyes.

"I do not look like that."

"You do," he said calmly.

She nudged his arm weakly.

"You're annoying."

"And yet you confessed your feelings to me," he replied.

Her face turned red instantly.

"That was different!"

"Was it?"

"Yes!"

He smirked slightly.

The teasing felt lighter now.

Warmer.

But the question still sat in her chest.

Lillian took a breath.

"Okay… I'm just going to ask."

"Good plan," Sebastian said.

She looked at him carefully.

"So… um…"

His eyes narrowed slightly.

"Yes?"

She swallowed.

"Does this mean…"

She paused again.

Sebastian leaned closer.

"Mean what?"

Her cheeks flushed.

"That you're… my boyfriend now?"

The words rushed out quickly.

Then she immediately looked down at the blanket.

Embarrassed.

The room went quiet.

Sebastian didn't answer right away.

Lillian's heart started pounding.

"Maybe I shouldn't have asked that," she muttered quickly.

"No," he said suddenly.

She blinked.

His hand lifted gently to the side of her head.

Then he leaned forward.

And pressed a soft kiss against the side of her head.

Right near her temple.

Warm.

Gentle.

Certain.

Lillian froze.

Her face immediately turned pink.

When he pulled back, he looked at her calmly.

"There," he said.

"That answers your question."

She blinked at him.

"So… that means…?"

"Yes."

His voice was simple.

Confident.

"It means I'm your boyfriend."

The word made her stomach flutter.

Boyfriend.

Sebastian Wolfe.

Her boyfriend.

A small smile slowly spread across her face.

But then another thought appeared.

Her expression shifted slightly.

Sebastian noticed immediately.

"What's wrong?"

She hesitated.

"Nothing…"

"Lillian."

She sighed.

"Okay… something."

He leaned back slightly.

"What?"

She looked at him carefully.

"What are we supposed to do at the office?"

He frowned slightly.

"What do you mean?"

"What if people find out?" she asked.

Her voice was quiet.

"You're the CEO."

"And I'm…"

She paused.

Sebastian tilted his head.

"You're what?"

She looked down.

"Your secretary."

The words sounded smaller than she intended.

Sebastian frowned immediately.

"That's not how I see you."

Her eyes lifted slowly.

"You're not just my secretary."

"Then what am I?" she asked softly.

He didn't hesitate.

"You're the woman I like."

Her heart skipped.

"And now you're also my girlfriend."

Her cheeks turned red again.

"But people might talk," she said carefully.

"They always do."

Sebastian shrugged.

"Let them."

She blinked.

"Sebastian, it's not that simple."

"It is to me."

He leaned slightly forward.

"We'll act professionally at work."

"And when we're not at work…"

His eyes softened.

"…You're mine."

She studied his face.

"You really don't care what people think?"

"Not particularly."

"What about the board?"

"They'll survive."

"What about HR?"

"They'll definitely survive."

She laughed quietly.

"You're impossible."

"I've been told."

She smiled.

"But seriously," she continued, "what if people treat me differently?"

Sebastian's expression softened.

"Then they'll answer to me."

Her eyes widened.

"You can't threaten everyone."

"I don't have to."

His voice was calm.

"They know better."

Lillian shook her head, amused.

"You really are terrifying sometimes."

"Only when necessary."

A small silence followed.

Then Sebastian spoke again.

"There's something else."

Lillian looked up.

"What?"

For the first time since she'd known him, he looked… slightly unsure.

"I should warn you."

Her curiosity grew.

"About what?"

He leaned back in the chair slightly.

"I'm not very experienced with this."

"With what?"

He hesitated.

Then said plainly.

"Love."

The word hung quietly between them.

"I don't know much about it."

Lillian blinked.

"Or affection," he added.

His gaze drifted briefly toward the window.

"I've spent most of my life focused on work."

"Control."

"Business."

"Strategy."

He exhaled quietly.

"Not… feelings."

Her chest tightened.

He looked back at her.

"But for you…"

He paused.

"I'm willing to learn."

The words were simple.

But they carried weight.

Lillian felt her eyes sting slightly.

"That might be the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me," she whispered.

Sebastian blinked.

"Really?"

"Yes."

"I thought it sounded pretty basic."

She laughed softly.

"It doesn't have to be complicated to mean something."

He studied her quietly.

Then nodded slightly.

"Good."

Another comfortable silence followed.

Then Lillian slowly leaned forward.

Sebastian noticed immediately.

"What are you doing?"

She didn't answer.

Instead—

She leaned closer.

And placed a gentle kiss on his cheek.

Soft.

Quick.

Shy.

Sebastian froze.

Completely still.

Lillian pulled back, smiling nervously.

"That's for trying."

He touched his cheek slowly.

Processing.

"You just kissed me."

"Yes."

"You're very bold for someone who was shy five minutes ago."

She laughed.

"Well…"

Her eyes sparkled slightly.

"You said you were willing to learn."

He leaned forward slightly.

"And you're the teacher?"

"Maybe."

He studied her face.

Then smirked faintly.

"This could be dangerous."

"How?"

"You're encouraging me."

She tilted her head.

"Is that a bad thing?"

He leaned closer.

Their faces only inches apart.

"It might be," he murmured.

Her heart started racing again.

"You sound very serious."

"I am."

"But I'm also curious."

"About what?"

He spoke quietly.

"What else you plan to teach me."

Her face turned red again.

"I didn't say I had a lesson plan."

"Pity."

She laughed softly.

"You're unbelievable."

"And yet," he said calmly, "you like me."

She nodded.

"I do."

His hand slipped gently into hers again.

"And I like you."

She squeezed his hand.

"Good."

"Very good," he agreed.

Outside, the city continued its busy morning.

But inside the room—

Everything felt still.

Warm.

Safe.

And for the first time, Sebastian Wolfe wasn't thinking about business, strategy, or control.

He was thinking about her.

And surprisingly—

He liked that feeling.
