Chapter 18
The Kuroda Clan warehouse was silent.
Too silent.
Men stood along the metal walls with rifles slung across their shoulders, watching the center of the room where Kazuo Kuroda sat comfortably in a chair like a king observing his court.
Across from him stood Keiko Nakamura.
Her arms crossed.
Her expression calm.
But inside, her anger still burned like gasoline.
Kazuo swirled a glass of whiskey lazily.
"You promised me valuable information," he said.
"And so far you've only delivered one dead assassin."
Keiko didn't flinch.
"That assassin confirmed something important."
Kazuo raised an eyebrow.
"That your former boss is extremely protective of that girl?"
Keiko's lips curved slightly.
"You have no idea how protective he is."
Kazuo leaned forward.
"Then enlighten me."
The warehouse lights hummed quietly above them.
Keiko's voice became cold.
"You're trying to kill the wrong person."
Kazuo's smile faded slightly.
"Explain."
Keiko walked slowly around the table.
Her heels echoed softly on the concrete floor.
"You think Yumi Sato is just another soldier in the Takeda Syndicate."
Kazuo shrugged.
"Isn't she?"
Keiko stopped.
"No."
Her eyes sharpened.
"She joined the syndicate for one reason."
Kazuo watched her carefully.
"And what reason would that be?"
Keiko leaned slightly toward him.
"Revenge."
The room fell silent.
Kazuo's fingers paused on his glass.
"Revenge against who?"
Keiko smiled slowly.
"Ryuji Takeda."
Several men in the room exchanged confused glances.
Kazuo chuckled.
"You expect me to believe the woman he's protecting is actually trying to kill him?"
Keiko's smile widened.
"That's the beautiful part."
She stepped closer.
"Ryuji Takeda has no idea."
Kazuo studied her face carefully.
"Why would she want him dead?"
Keiko's voice dropped.
"Because of her family."
Kazuo's interest sharpened.
"What about them?"
Keiko's eyes darkened.
"They were killed during a syndicate raid years ago."
Kazuo's expression slowly changed.
Understanding creeping in.
"And she believes Takeda ordered it."
Keiko nodded.
"Her parents are dead."
The warehouse grew quiet again.
Then Kazuo laughed.
A slow, amused laugh.
"This just became much more interesting."
Keiko crossed her arms.
"You're welcome."
Kazuo leaned back in his chair.
"So let me understand this."
He counted on his fingers.
"The girl wants revenge on Takeda."
"Takeda is obsessed with the girl."
"And the girl is living in Takeda's penthouse."
Keiko nodded.
"Exactly."
Kazuo's grin spread slowly.
"This is better than I imagined."
One of his men frowned.
"Boss?"
Kazuo stood.
Eyes gleaming with cruel amusement.
"Why kill her?"
The room went still.
He looked at Keiko.
"We can use her."
Keiko tilted her head.
"How?"
Kazuo's smile turned dangerous.
"If Takeda discovers she joined his syndicate to kill him…"
He spread his hands.
"…that destroys him."
Keiko's eyes gleamed.
"And if she actually succeeds?"
Kazuo chuckled.
"Then our biggest rival dies."
He turned toward the massive warehouse window overlooking the city.
"Either way…"
His voice dropped.
"…we win."
Keiko watched the city lights in silence.
But deep down…
Her revenge wasn't finished yet.
Because there was one more secret she hadn't told them.
One that would destroy both Yumi and Ryuji.
And when the time was right…
She would reveal it.
Meanwhile — Takeda Penthouse
Yumi stood in the kitchen pouring a glass of water.
Her ribs still hurt from the fight earlier.
Behind her, Ryuji leaned against the counter watching her quietly.
"You're not resting."
"I'm not tired."
"You're injured."
"I've had worse."
Ryuji studied her for a moment.
Then asked something unexpected.
"Why did you join the syndicate?"
Yumi froze.
Just for a second.
Then she took a sip of water.
"Money."
Ryuji didn't look convinced.
"You're lying."
Yumi turned toward him.
"Everyone here is."
Their eyes locked.
A long silence stretched between them.
Neither of them realized that far across the city…
Their enemies had just discovered the most dangerous truth of all.
Yumi Sato wasn't just part of the Takeda Syndicate.
She was a bomb waiting to explode inside it.
