Alaric
"This stupid hat," I muttered, tugging the brim lower on my head.
I had bought it at a gas station twenty minutes outside Langose City, and I regretted it before the cashier had even handed me my change.
It was bright red with a white maple leaf stitched on the front, and above the brim it said I LOVE LANGOSE in letters so big they could probably be read from space.
It was the only hat they had. I had told Nico I would wear a hat, and I was not going to be the man who broke a promise on the very first day.
So I pulled it low over my eyes, put on a pair of sunglasses even though the sun had gone down an hour ago, and sat in the rental car at the back of the private terminal with the engine running and my knee bouncing so hard the whole seat shook.
Dami had already called twice.
"Are you sure nobody followed you?" he asked the second time.
"I drove here in a gray Honda, Dami. Nobody follows a gray Honda."
"You own four luxury cars and none of them are gray."
