The soft beeping of medical machines echoed in the quiet hospital room.
White light from the ceiling lamps fell gently on the pale face of the girl lying on the hospital bed. Her long eyelashes trembled slightly, and after a few moments, her eyes slowly opened.
For a few seconds, everything looked blurry.
The smell of medicine filled the air. Her body felt weak, and a dull pain lingered in her head.
"Lily… Lily, can you hear me?" a worried voice called.
She turned her head slowly and saw her father standing beside the bed. His face looked tired, as if he hadn't slept for days.
"Dad…" Lily whispered weakly.
Relief immediately appeared on his face.
"Thank God… you're finally awake."
Lily tried to remember what had happened. The last thing she recalled was crossing the road after leaving the café… then a bright light… the sound of a car… and darkness.
Her gaze slowly moved across the room.
Near the window stood a tall young man dressed in a simple black suit. He looked calm and composed, speaking quietly with her father.
"...Doctor said she was very lucky," the young man said.
Lily watched him silently. His face looked unfamiliar, yet strangely comforting.
Her father noticed her looking.
"Lily," he said gently, "this is Alex."
Alex stepped closer to the bed, his expression soft.
"I'm glad you're awake," he said.
Lily's heart suddenly felt warm.
In her mind, everything connected instantly.
He was here… standing beside her father… talking about the accident… staying in the hospital even now.
He must be the one who saved her.
A faint smile appeared on her lips.
"Thank you…" she whispered.
Alex looked slightly confused for a moment but simply nodded politely.
"You should focus on resting," he replied.
Lily slowly closed her eyes again, feeling safe for some reason. The image of Alex standing in the hospital room stayed in her mind.
A month later.
The bright morning sun shined through the tall glass windows of Harrington Group's headquarters.
Employees walked through the lobby with busy expressions. The building buzzed with energy and ambition.
Lily stepped inside confidently, dressed in a professional white blouse and black skirt. Her health had fully recovered, and today was her first day officially working in her father's company.
Her father, Richard Harrington, was the chairman of the company.
Although she had grown up surrounded by wealth, Lily wanted to prove she could work hard on her own.
She walked toward the office corridor when suddenly someone approached from the opposite direction.
The moment their eyes met, both paused.
It was Alex.
He wore a clean navy suit, holding a file in one hand. His calm expression quickly turned into mild surprise.
"Lily?"
She smiled brightly.
"Alex."
For a moment, both of them stood there remembering the hospital.
"I didn't expect to see you here," Lily said.
Alex chuckled slightly.
"I work here," he replied. "Your father hired me as a business consultant recently."
Lily looked impressed.
"So you're helping the company?"
"Trying to."
They both laughed lightly.
Lily looked at him with quiet gratitude in her eyes.
Ever since the day she woke up in the hospital, she believed one thing deeply in her heart.
Alex was the man who saved her life.
And every time she saw him, that feeling only grew stronger.
Neither of them realized that a misunderstanding born in that hospital room was slowly beginning to change all of their lives.
Lily sat behind the large desk in her new office, gently tapping a pen against a notebook.
Outside the glass walls, employees moved quickly through the corridors, busy with their work. But Lily's mind was somewhere else.
Her thoughts kept returning to one person.
Alex.
She leaned back in her chair and sighed quietly.
How can I make him fall in love with me?
The question had been circling in her mind for days.
Ever since she met him again in the company, something inside her heart had started changing. The man she believed had saved her life was now working in the same building as her.
He was calm, intelligent, and never tried to impress anyone. That quiet confidence only made him more attractive.
Lily rested her chin on her hand.
Maybe I should invite him for dinner…
The idea sounded simple at first.
But after thinking about it for a few seconds, she immediately shook her head.
"No… that would be too awkward," she murmured.
If I suddenly asked Alex to have dinner alone with her, it might make things uncomfortable. After all, we weren't that close yet.
She stared at the ceiling for a moment.
Then a small smile slowly appeared on her face.
What if…
Her eyes brightened.
What if it's not just the two of us?
If I invited the entire department for dinner, it would look like a normal team gathering. No one would suspect anything.
And Alex would naturally attend.
That way, I could spend time with him without making the situation strange.
Lily suddenly sat up straight in her chair.
"That's perfect."
But another thought quickly followed.
If all the employees were there, how could she make sure she spent time with Alex?
Her fingers tapped the desk again as she thought carefully.
Then she chuckled softly.
"Simple."
Everyone in the company already knew she was the chairman's daughter. If she casually asked Alex to sit beside her during dinner, no one would question it.
In fact, most employees would probably think she was simply discussing work.
Her plan was slowly forming.
A company dinner.
Friendly atmosphere.
And a chance to know Alex better.
Lily looked toward the large window beside her desk, watching the city outside.
Her heart felt strangely excited.
She didn't know if Alex would ever fall in love with her.
But one thing was certain.
She was going to try.
