Chapter 1 - Whispers Between Raindrops

Sirota was the kind of student most people didn't notice. He sat near the window in Class 11-B, usually quiet, usually staring at the sky as if clouds had more interesting conversations than people. His messy black hair often fell over his eyes, and he always carried a small notebook where he liked to draw random sketches.

Takamine, on the other hand, was impossible to ignore.

She was the top student in the school—smart, confident, and graceful. Teachers trusted her, classmates admired her, and whenever she walked through the hallway, people naturally made space for her. With her long dark hair tied in a neat ribbon and a calm smile, Takamine seemed like someone who belonged in a different world from Sirota.

They had never spoken before.

One quiet afternoon after school, rain suddenly began pouring outside. Students rushed to leave, but Sirota stayed by the classroom window, watching the rain fall over the empty courtyard.

"Are you waiting for the rain to stop?"

The voice surprised him.

When he turned around, Takamine was standing near the door, holding her bag and looking slightly curious.

"Uh… not really," Sirota said awkwardly. "I just like rain."

Takamine tilted her head. "You like rain?"

"It feels… peaceful," he replied, scratching his head. "Like the world slows down for a while."

For a moment, Takamine looked outside at the rain. Then she quietly walked over and stood beside him.

"I never thought about it like that," she said softly.

The two stood there silently, watching the raindrops race down the glass.

After a few seconds, Takamine noticed the notebook in Sirota's hand.

"Do you draw?"

Sirota hesitated before handing it to her. Inside were sketches of the school courtyard, trees blowing in the wind, and small moments of everyday life—students laughing, a cat sleeping near the gate, even a drawing of the classroom window with rain outside.

Takamine's eyes widened.

"These are beautiful," she said.

Sirota immediately looked embarrassed. "They're just random sketches."

"No," Takamine said gently. "They feel… real."

From that day on, something small began to change.

Takamine occasionally stopped by Sirota's desk to ask about his drawings. Sirota slowly started talking more, though he still got nervous whenever she smiled at him.

Soon they began walking home together after school.

Sirota showed her quiet places around town—a small hill where you could see the sunset, a bookstore that smelled like old paper, and a hidden park where stray cats gathered every evening.

Takamine, who always focused on studying and responsibilities, began to feel something new—freedom.

One evening, as they sat on the hill watching the sunset paint the sky orange, Takamine spoke quietly.

"Sirota… can I ask you something?"

"Sure."

"Why do you always notice these small moments?"

Sirota thought for a moment before answering.

"Because small moments are the ones people forget," he said. "But they're usually the happiest."

Takamine looked at him, her eyes soft.

For the first time, she realized something.

Maybe the quiet boy by the window had been seeing a beautiful world all along.

And maybe… she wanted to see it with him.

As the sun disappeared behind the horizon, the wind gently moved through the grass.

Takamine smiled.

And Sirota, blushing slightly, smiled back.
