Chapter 5 - Volume 1 –Chapter 5 — Kings and Gods

The royal throne hall of the Human Kingdom stood in solemn silence.

Towering marble pillars lined the chamber, carved with ancient victories and the legends of past rulers. Long crimson banners hung from the walls, each bearing the royal crest.

At the end of the hall sat the king.

King Aldric Valemorn.

A ruler feared across the continent.

He was not a soft monarch raised on luxury.

He was a warrior king.

Thick dark hair flowed down to his shoulders, slightly streaked with silver from years of war. A well-kept beard framed his stern face, giving him the appearance of a battle-hardened lion.

Upon his head rested a heavy golden crown.

On his right hand gleamed a large ring carved with ancient runes of authority.

Beside his throne leaned two weapons.

A massive shield bearing the royal crest.

And a long sword.

A blade said to have split mountains during the War of Seven Crowns.

Before the throne knelt a general in black battle armor.

His head bowed deeply.

"My king."

King Aldric's deep voice echoed across the chamber.

"You requested an audience immediately after returning from the battlefield."

His eyes narrowed slightly.

"Explain."

The general raised his head slowly.

"My king… I encountered an unusual warrior."

The king leaned forward slightly.

"Unusual?"

The general hesitated.

Then he spoke carefully.

"He was powerful enough… to rival even you."

The hall fell silent.

Even the royal guards shifted uneasily.

King Aldric stood slowly from his throne.

His armor produced a heavy metallic sound as he stepped down from the royal platform.

He walked toward the general and stopped directly in front of him.

"You are not a man who exaggerates."

The general shook his head firmly.

"I would never insult the throne with false praise."

The king crossed his arms.

"This warrior…"

"Which side did he belong to?"

The general frowned.

"That is the strange part."

"He fought the demons."

"Then he fought the humans."

"And when I confronted him…"

The general paused.

"…he fought me as well."

The king's eyes sharpened immediately.

"So he belongs to no kingdom."

He slowly turned toward the enormous war map displayed across the chamber wall.

Seven territories were marked across the continent.

Seven kingdoms.

The Human Kingdom.

The Demon Kingdom.

The Elven Kingdom.

The Beast Kingdom.

The Dwarven Kingdom.

The Spirit Kingdom.

And the chaotic frontier lands beyond civilization.

King Aldric placed his hand on the map.

"If a warrior capable of rivaling a king appears during wartime…"

"…the balance of the continent will collapse."

The general remained silent.

The king continued.

"The Elven Kingdom already stands with us."

"If we secure an alliance with the Beast Kingdom…"

"…and perhaps the Spirit Kingdom…"

His gaze darkened.

"Then even the Demon Lord would hesitate before waging war."

He looked back toward the general.

"Find this warrior."

The general lowered his head again.

"And if he refuses to serve the Human Kingdom?"

The king answered without hesitation.

"Then we ensure he never becomes our enemy."

Neither of them knew.

The Demon Lord they feared…

…was already dead.

Far away.

Within the dark throne room of the Demon Castle.

Veyrion sat upon the throne.

The throne of the Demon Lord.

Black stone walls surrounded the massive chamber, illuminated only by flickering torches that cast long shadows across the floor.

Veyrion leaned back slightly.

Power flowed through his veins.

Fire.

Earth.

Shadow.

The inherited magic of the former Demon Lord pulsed inside his body.

Yet despite that power…

He still felt uneasy.

As if someone was watching him.

Then suddenly—

The air beside the throne twisted.

A figure slowly appeared.

Veyrion immediately narrowed his eyes.

"…You."

The man standing beside the throne looked exactly like him.

The same face.

The same height.

The same black markings that spread like tattoos across his arm.

Even the clothing matched perfectly.

The man smiled calmly.

"I thought this form would make conversation easier."

Veyrion crossed his arms.

"Selynth."

The Ninth God.

Selynth nodded.

"My true form is… somewhat difficult for mortals to perceive."

He tapped his chest lightly.

"The Seven Divine Laws forbid me from manifesting my godly body within this world."

"So I simply borrow yours."

Veyrion scoffed.

"Great."

"Now there are two of me."

Selynth chuckled quietly.

"Relax."

"I'm not here to steal your throne."

Veyrion's expression hardened.

"You're here to explain something."

The room grew quiet.

Selynth walked slowly toward the large window overlooking the Demon Kingdom.

"This world…"

"…was originally mine."

Veyrion frowned.

"You said that before."

Selynth nodded.

"I created it."

"A world designed to observe how different races evolve."

"A world where power and identity shape destiny."

He paused.

"But the other gods became interested."

Veyrion already knew where this was going.

"They turned it into entertainment."

Selynth sighed slightly.

"Exactly."

"Powerful divine families watch the wars."

"They place wagers on heroes."

"They sponsor kingdoms."

"They manipulate events."

"They call it… a grand game."

Veyrion's eyes darkened.

"So millions of people are dying…"

"…for the amusement of gods."

Selynth looked back at him calmly.

"Humans gamble on horse races."

"Gods gamble on worlds."

Veyrion slammed his fist against the armrest of the throne.

"You created this world!"

"And now you act like you're helpless?!"

Selynth's expression remained calm.

"They forced the Seven Divine Laws upon me."

"I cannot use my full power."

"We cannot fight each other directly."

"I cannot interfere openly."

He looked directly into Veyrion's eyes.

"That is why I need you."

Veyrion stared back.

"I'm your pawn."

Selynth shook his head slightly.

"No."

"You are both pawn…"

"…and hero."

Silence filled the throne room.

Finally Veyrion spoke again.

"And what do I get if I play your game?"

Selynth smiled faintly.

"I send you home."

Veyrion froze.

"Back to Earth."

"Back to your family."

"And if you wish…"

"I can return you to the exact moment before you disappeared."

Veyrion looked away for a moment.

Then the massive doors of the throne hall suddenly opened.

Seven powerful presences entered the chamber.

Each one radiated monstrous power.

Warriors who could destroy armies.

They walked forward together.

Then stopped before the throne.

One by one…

They knelt.

"We greet the new Demon Lord."

Veyrion stared down at them.

Selynth spoke quietly beside him.

"The Seven Demon Generals."

"The strongest warriors of this kingdom."

"They once served the previous Demon Lord."

He smiled slightly.

"Now…"

"They belong to you."

Veyrion slowly leaned forward on the throne.

His eyes moved across the kneeling warriors.

Then he spoke.

"Stand."

The generals slowly rose.

Veyrion smirked slightly.

"Looks like I just inherited an army."

Far above the world…

Hidden beyond the sky…

The gods watched.

The board had changed.

And the game…

…had only just begun.
