Chapter 3 - This isn't stealing. This is redistribution of wealth.

Feat Achieved: Pickpocket ten times

Reward: 1 X Bronze Random Gacha Ticket

As I darted into an empty alleyway I looked around to make sure that no one was looking at me. Then I slowly took out the purse that I had just taken from the woman who I had bumped into moments ago.

14 silver and 46 copper coins. Nice.

Together with the nine other purses I had snatched so far, my current net worth sat at roughly 3 gold coins and some change. More than enough to get a place for a year if I wasn't too picky about where I stayed.

The nice part of only targeting the rich as your marks is that you can get a lot of funds really quickly.

The bad part was that they were more likely to have some form of protection on them.

Luckily this town had neither a lot of high level adventurers nor had people who owned strong magic items.

The town that I was in was called Friddr Harbor and it was located in the west coast of the Draconic Kingdom.

The town was one of many that was built to facilitate trade with the Slane Theocracy that lay at the other end of Border Lake. As a port city it should have been more prosperous but since the Border Lake covered the entire western border of the Draconic Kingdom it was just one of the few dozen ports where goods arrived.

It was too far north to supply the front lines of the never ending conflict with the beastmen, but too far south to trade with the Wyvern Rider Tribes. And so the town maintained its existence by supplying the cities that were further inland.

Most of the people that I had managed to pickpocket had been local magnates, those who earned enough to be flourishing in this town, but not so much that they could afford to purchase better protection.

I gave the foreign merchants from the Slane Theocracy and Baharut Empire a wide berth as they were always surrounded by people who seemed to know what they were doing. Even if they seemed to have heavier purses.

The reason why the local merchants and business owners had lesser protection than their foreign counterparts was simple.

The beastmen.

The beastmen had been launching small scale raids against the Draconic Kingdom for a generation before they had launched an actual invasion a couple of years ago.

At the beginning the Kingdom had been able to barely hold them back.

But with the high rate of attrition in the battles, the beastmen were able to replenish their numbers a lot faster and keep their momentum going.

The Slane Theocracy had sent their Scriptures a few times to hold the line in crucial moments but had to be called back due to their own war against the elves.

The Re-Estize Kingdom and the Baharut Empire were busy having their annual dick measuring contest to be any help.

And the City State Alliance had their own problems with fractured leadership and a borders that touched both the Troll Kingdom and the Great Minotaur Nation.

Everyone else was too far to help.

And so everything and everyone that could be of help had been diverted south to stem the flow of beastmen trying to fully conquer the kingdom and turn its people into food.

I know right, shit is depressing.

Hopefully I could help them eventually and finish the quests I had received when I first set foot in the town.

Quest received:

Quest 1: Defeat the beastman army invading the Draconis Kingdom.

Reward: 1X Diamond Random Gacha Ticket

Quest 2: Retake the cities captured by the beastmen army within the Draconis Kingdom.

Reward: 1X Diamond Random Gacha Ticket.

Quest 3: Annihilate the beastman army invading the Draconis Kingdom.

Reward: 1X Legendary Random Gacha Ticket

Quest 4: Lead an incursion force to cripple the beastmen from launching more attacks on the Draconis Kingdom.

Reward: 1X Legendary Random Gacha Ticket

Quest 5: Use any means to guarantee the safety of the Draconis Kingdom. (Queen Draudillon Oriculus must consider her kingdom to be secure for this quest to be completed.)

Reward 1X Divine Random Gacha Ticket

2 Diamonds, 2 Legendries and one Divine Ticket for taking part in the war and helping to win it. Plus the ones I'd get from defeating beastmen and rescuing the people there. If I wanted to get stronger I would eventually have to head south and join the war.

But not yet. I was still to weak to guarantee that I wouldn't die during my first encounter with a beastman.

With these thoughts on my mind I made my way to the empty house that I had made my abode.

On my way there I took a look at the tickets that I hadn't used yet.

Might as well use them then.

Trinket of Chi, Uncommon Item

Calamity Mod - A trinket held a devout monk who stood still until they became a statue. When standing still for more than 3 seconds you recover your energy/mana and health faster.

As I looked through the list of rewards a smile appeared on my face. No Abilities this time, but that was ok. I couldn't use it anyway without a second slot. The two traits would be very helpful and serve as a force multiplier as I struck faster and outlasted my opponents.

The familiar would synergize well with me as it served as the frontline and I attacked from range with Primordial Earth. The item seems to be a healing artifact that would help recover both mana and energy along with health. I mentions that it does it faster but doesn't mention at what rate. This would require experimentation.

But the grand prize time this time was the skill I had pulled.

Literacy would allow me to understand and read all known languages in this world. That included everything from the common human language to the runic scripts of dragons. Any ancient texts that were left untranslated could be done so by me.

But that wasn't the main reason why I was excited. I was excited because I could finally communicate with people.

With the Mute curse I couldn't talk to anybody and I couldn't read any of the writings here. There was only so much body language and hand signs could convey before people gave up on trying to understand me.

Now I would have a work around for the curse and be able to take my time on curing it.

With that happy thought I walked into the deserted shack where I had left my belongings.

Only to come face to face with four masked robbers going through my stuff.
