Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: The Sudden Checkpoint

After arriving at the logging camp, everyone began helping to move the items stored there.

Tallulah looked at the person in charge with an apologetic expression.

"Romanlov, I'm sorry..."

She had just heard about the situation at the reservoir from the others.

The reason they had chosen to establish the logging camp here in the first place was because Romanlov's father worked at that reservoir.

He could serve as their eyes and ears; if there was any trouble, the logging camp would hear about it immediately.

When she and Frostnova received word this morning that the logging camp had been raided, they had even suspected for a moment that he had defected.

Now that she knew the reason, Tallulah felt even more ashamed.

"It's alright, Leader.

It's just that there were many areas here that could have been harvested, but now we have no choice but to abandon them."

Romanlov wiped away the tears from the corners of his eyes and spoke in a low voice.

"I know. Fortunately, we have a backup plan, so it shouldn't delay the supply of firewood for winter heating."

Tallulah breathed a sigh of relief as she saw Romanlov's emotions stabilize.

He was one of the few people in the Reunion Movement with organizational skills.

Although he wasn't skilled in combat and was therefore assigned to logistics-related work,

he was exactly the kind of talent the Reunion Movement desperately needed right now.

"Leader, do you think it's still too late for me to start practicing Originium Arts?"

Romanlov looked at his hands and asked softly.

Tallulah wanted to tell him not to let revenge blind him, but she couldn't bring herself to say the words.

The group did not return directly to the base camp but instead went to another backup logging area.

Then, they began to set everything up again.

Tallulah looked at Flandre Scarlet, who had followed them all the way.

"Flandre, you really didn't have to come along. Alina is still waiting for you to return."

Flandre shook her head, indicating she was just there to see something new.

After all, it was her first time seeing a real logging camp, especially one that was just being established, and she was very curious about many things.

As everyone worked up a sweat, they would occasionally see a little girl who was curious about everything, floating in the air, touching things here and looking there, and occasionally poking her head out to ask questions.

Although her speech was a bit stuttered, no one felt impatient.

Because everyone understood that their group's safe return was entirely thanks to this little girl's rescue.

Even if her actions during the rescue were indeed a bit exaggerated,

they had to admit her intervention was incredibly timely.

She stayed there until evening before approaching Tallulah.

"I'm going back now!"

Tallulah nodded.

"You know the way, right?"

Flandre indicated she was fine.

"Alright then. When you get there, give my regards to Alina. Also, there's still a lot of work to do at the new logging camp, so I'll probably need to stay here for a few days.

Um... also take a letter to Frostnova... that is, Yelena. We're still missing some things here, so ask her to help gather them at the base camp."

As Tallulah spoke, she took out a slip of paper, wrote some things on it, and handed it to Flandre Scarlet.

Although she looked exhausted, her spirit was exceptionally high. Because of her presence, the people here had temporarily forgotten about the previous logging camp and were throwing themselves heart and soul into developing the new area.

"Sorry for the trouble."

Flandre Scarlet took the slip of paper and flew into the sky.

It didn't take long for her to return to the base camp.

Seeing Flandre Scarlet return, many people looked over.

As soon as she landed, Alina came running over to hug her, looking over her clothes very nervously.

"You're not hurt, are you!"

Flandre Scarlet shook her head.

"The opponents were very weak; they couldn't hurt me.

Big Sister Alina doesn't need to worry."

Hearing Flandre's words and confirming that her clothes were clean and tidy, with no sign of injury from battle, Alina finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"Oh right, Tallulah said there are many things she needs to handle at the new logging camp, so she probably won't be back for several days.

Also, there's a note to give to Yelena, saying they need some things at the logging camp."

Hearing Flandre's words, Alina took the note, looked at it, and then handed it to Frostnova, who was walking over.

"It's mainly about security. Tallulah feels that from now on, we can't just have workers at the logging camp; we need enough combat personnel stationed there. This time we had Flandre to help deal with those enemies, but Flandre will be leaving after the new year. We'll be living here on our own in the future. If we encounter this kind of situation again, we can't expect a Flandre to just happen to appear and help us every time!"

Frostnova nodded.

"Originally, there were defensive forces arranged at the logging camp.

But in the last two months, the sweeping operations of those Ursus Patrols have suddenly increased quite a bit.

The brothers were all sent out to rescue people or provide support.

We thought that place was relatively hidden and that with people watching outside nothing would happen, so we withdrew the security.

As a result, we didn't expect this kind of thing to happen."

Frostnova sighed; the Reunion Movement was still too weak.

Never mind the regular Ursus army, even these Reconnaissance Squads could chase them until they were running in all directions.

However, it would be winter soon, and the wind and snow outside in Ursus would hinder the enemy's movements.

Then, everyone would be able to rest for a while.

The only thing was, there still wasn't enough food. The Yeti Squad had already expanded their hunting range to a hundred kilometers, but the number of Infected kept increasing, and they could only maintain the daily consumption of the entire camp now.

Moreover, they couldn't just eat meat for an entire winter.

Coupled with the shortage of supplies, she had long noticed that some people were already having second thoughts.
