Chapter 140 - Chapter 139: House Targaryen's New Dragon

Chapter 139: House Targaryen's New Dragon

Before the Dragon Nest Tower, Valarr and Ray stood in front of the towering tower gate, blocking Aegon and Lingor. Valarr gently put his arm around his nephew, holding Lingor in his arms, and Ray looked at Aegon seriously:

"Your Majesty, if you want to ride a dragon to chase your elder brother, he has already left me instructions. No."

"Why, Uncle Ray? Vermax is my elder brother's dragon, and I am also the head of House Targaryen, the King of the Seven Kingdoms. I have an obligation to protect the family's dragons." Aegon said somewhat unconvinced. He knew that with Ray and Valarr there, he would definitely not be able to ride Stormcloud to pursue the dragon thief.

"Precisely because you are the King of the Seven Kingdoms, no, Your Majesty." Ray shook his head. "If Tigaro's intelligence is not wrong, the men who came to steal the dragon are great nobles from Volantis. They even hold high positions within the Tiger Party. If Your Majesty, as the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, kills them in the territory of the Seven Kingdoms, then if they have not actually stolen a dragon, killing high-ranking members of the Volantene Tiger Party will lead to a serious diplomatic incident. So, Your Majesty, leave it to your elder brother." Ray smiled. "After all, he is the one who fears those bastards from Volantis the least."

Aegon sat down angrily in front of Ray. He was very smart; as soon as Ray spoke, he understood Ray's meaning. If he were still a prince, he would have no problem pursuing the dragon thief, but he was the King. Although he didn't sit on the Iron Throne and spent his days playing around with the young people of Dragon Nest City, he was still the King. A king can do some things and cannot do others.

"Moreover, Your Majesty, you have other tasks." Ray pulled out a long piece of parchment. "My elder brother asked me to give this to you before he left, Your Majesty."

"What is this?" Aegon curiously took the parchment, then was startled by the dense names and sigils on it.

Ray explained with a smile: "Ser Steffon Darklyn's ship will arrive in Lace Town tomorrow. He will arrive at Summerhall in three days. Your Majesty, you need seven Kingsguard, but now there are only two in this team. We need to fill the remaining white cloaks."

Aegon scanned the names again, then suddenly stood up and said seriously:

"Uncle Ray, can I have them compete in a tourney? I can pay for the tourney."

Having experienced the Dance of the Dragons, Aegon understood that those who protected him didn't necessarily have to be from prominent noble families, but they had to be skilled fighters, and the only criterion for judging skill was actual combat.

Aegon didn't want useless people who had just dabbled in battle and returned. He wanted true warriors like the Kingsguard of Jaehaerys I and Aegon I.

Ray smiled.

His elder brother was right. Aegon indeed had a childish personality, but also the maturity and wisdom inherited from his brothers.

Aegon would definitely organize such a tourney to test true skill.

"As you wish, Your Majesty."

Dragonstone

Daemon had several Dragonstone soldiers carry away Ser Robert Quince, who was exhausted, and he himself, along with several Dragonkeepers carrying cooked meat, carefully entered the cave where a hatchling was rumored to have hatched.

The dark, black walls were covered with protruding rocks and thorns, and there was an unknown liquid flowing strangely. In the depths of the cave, crimson magma flowed quietly.

This seemed to have once been the nest of a wild dragon, and later occupied by another dragon, leaving behind sticky masses suspected to be dragon dung.

In the cave, there was also dragon dung that had turned into hard stone, as well as unrecognizable skeletal remains.

The experienced Daemon immediately saw that there had once been dragon eggs here, and more than one.

Unfortunately, where there should have been bulging dragon eggs, it was now deflated, with fragments of various shapes scattered around.

It seemed that the hatched hatchling had eaten the nearby dragon eggs to survive.

"Which dragon lived here before?"

Daemon turned to the grizzled Dragonkeeper beside him, who thought for a moment.

"It should be Syrax, but Syrax rarely lives here. She mostly stays in her old place."

Syrax, huh.

Daemon suddenly understood.

That made sense.

As one of the two dragons of House Targaryen that laid the most eggs, it was normal for Syrax to have laid several dragon eggs here without him knowing.

Daemon suddenly stopped advancing.

He heard a faint cry.

The Old Prince crouched down, softly chanting an unknown song in High Valyrian.

A purple-gold hatchling slowly crawled out of the viscous black mud, whimpering weakly a few times.

The black mud slid smoothly off its purple-gold scales, leaving no trace.

Daemon, however, frowned.

No other reason than that this purple-gold hatchling looked somewhat familiar.

The hatchling's head wasn't large, but it had two smooth, forked dragon horns, and exactly eight tentacles hanging from its lower jaw, giving the purple-gold hatchling's head a bit more majesty.

Its body, however, looked exactly like Sunfyre.

But Daemon quickly dismissed the thought.

After all, Sunfyre was dead, and this hatchling symbolized the slow recovery of House Targaryen's dragon population.

"Geleisos, I name you in the name of the God of Fire, Stars, Moon, Sun, and Dawn."

Daemon slowly approached the hatchling.

The hatchling mercilessly spat a small flame, but Daemon deftly dodged it.

The hatchling tried to escape, but was attracted by the meat in a Dragonkeeper's hand and slowly crawled toward it.

"It's an energetic little fellow. Dragonkeeper, take it back to the courtyard. Once it can breathe fire and burn sheep, put it on a ship and send it to the Dragonpit in King's Landing."

Daemon was in a good mood, not caring at all that he was covered in mud.

As Daemon walked out of the cave, a sharp dragon roar suddenly came from above.

The Old Prince looked up and saw Tyraxes screaming angrily as he swept south from above Dragonstone.

Daemon couldn't help but cover his head.

It seemed the news had reached High Tide.

His stepson still couldn't sit still.

After all, it was his most beloved elder brother's dragon that someone was eyeing. How could Joffrey not be angry?

An enraged Joffrey kept shouting:

"Faster, Tyraxes!"

The young purple dragon roared and swooped down, allowing Joffrey to carefully observe every passing ship.

Tyraxes suddenly let out a roar, and Joffrey looked up to see Seasmoke likewise roaring back at Tyraxes.

Seeing that Tyraxes didn't charge, the silver-grey beast roared disinterestedly and flew back to Dragonstone.

Joffrey also saw two ships, one in front and one behind, and a black shadow gradually becoming clear in the clouds.

Vermithor, flying over Blackwater Bay.
