Chapter 1 - A Story of Friendship

One day, my best friend Batu and I decided to go camping deep inside a forest. Both of us loved adventure and nature, so we wanted to spend a few days away from the noisy city and enjoy the peace of the wild.

Early in the morning, we packed all the things we would need for the trip. We carried a tent, food supplies, fishing rods, flashlights, some medicine, and a few basic tools. After making sure everything was ready, we started our journey toward the forest.

The walk was long, but the beauty of nature made it enjoyable. Tall trees stood like guardians on both sides of the path, and birds were singing sweet songs above us. The deeper we walked into the forest, the quieter and more peaceful everything became.

After several hours of walking, we finally found a perfect place to set up our camp. Nearby, there was a beautiful river flowing with clear water. The sunlight reflected on the water, making it shine like silver.

"This place is perfect," Batu said with a smile.

We quickly set up our tent near the river and arranged our supplies inside. The cool breeze of the forest felt refreshing after the long walk.

After finishing our work, Batu looked at the river and said,

"Why don't we try fishing? Maybe we'll catch something for dinner."

I agreed immediately. We grabbed our fishing rods and walked toward the riverbank. The water was calm, and the peaceful sound of the flowing river made the moment even more relaxing.

We sat quietly and started fishing.

For a while, everything was calm and silent.

But suddenly, we heard loud noises coming from the trees above us. It sounded like something was screaming and running in fear.

We both looked up.

A small monkey was rushing toward us through the branches, crying loudly. The poor animal looked extremely frightened.

Behind the monkey, a wild dog was chasing it quickly.

The situation was clear. The dog was trying to hunt the little monkey.

As soon as the monkey reached us, it jumped down toward the ground. Without wasting a second, I quickly picked it up in my arms to protect it.

The wild dog stopped a few meters away from us and began growling angrily.

Batu immediately grabbed a thick stick from the ground and shouted loudly to scare the dog away. I also picked up a few stones and threw them toward it.

After a few tense moments, the dog finally became scared and ran away back into the forest.

We both sighed with relief.

Then we carefully looked at the little monkey in my arms.

We noticed that its hand was injured. There was a small wound, and it seemed that the monkey had been hurt while escaping from the dog.

The poor creature looked weak and tired.

"We need to help him," Batu said.

I nodded.

Batu opened our first aid kit while I searched around the nearby bushes for some natural herbs that could help treat the wound.

We gently cleaned the monkey's injured hand and applied medicine on it. Then we carefully wrapped a piece of cloth around the wound like a small bandage.

At first, the monkey looked scared and confused. But after a few minutes, it seemed to understand that we were trying to help it.

We decided to bring the monkey back to our tent so it could rest in a safe place.

Evening slowly began to fall across the forest. The sky turned orange and purple as the sun started to disappear behind the trees.

It was time to prepare dinner.

We gathered some dry wood and lit a small fire. Soon, we started cooking our food over the fire.

The smell of warm food filled the air.

When the food was ready, we gave a small portion to the monkey.

At first, it hesitated and looked at us carefully. But after a moment, it slowly started eating.

It seemed very hungry.

After eating, the monkey quietly sat near our tent. It looked calmer now, as if it had begun to trust us.

That night, it stayed close to us while we rested near the fire.

Later that night, Batu suggested that we go a little deeper into the forest to see if we could find any animals for hunting.

We decided to leave the monkey safely inside the tent so it could rest.

With flashlights in our hands, we walked deeper into the dark forest.

The forest was quiet and mysterious at night.

We searched for a long time, but we could not find any animals.

After walking for quite a while, Batu pointed toward a large rock nearby.

"Let's climb that rock," he said. "Maybe we can see more from the top."

We carefully climbed onto the big rock.

From the top, we could see a large part of the forest around us.

But suddenly, we noticed something lying on the ground nearby.

Curious, we climbed down and walked closer.

When we finally reached it, our hearts sank.

It was a dead monkey.

We immediately remembered the little monkey we had rescued earlier.

There was a strong possibility that this dead monkey was its mother.

Maybe the same wild dog had attacked her earlier.

The thought made us feel very sad.

Even though it was an animal, it still deserved respect.

So we decided to bury the monkey properly.

Using sticks and stones, we dug a small hole in the ground. Then we gently placed the monkey inside and covered it with soil.

After finishing, we stood silently for a moment.

Then we slowly walked back toward our camp.

When we reached the tent, we saw the little monkey sleeping peacefully.

It looked safe and comfortable.

The next morning, we packed our camping equipment and prepared to return home.

But there was one problem.

We could not leave the little monkey alone in the forest.

It would not survive by itself.

So we decided to take it home with us.

Days passed, and the monkey slowly became a part of our lives.

We gave him a name — Milo.

Milo quickly became very intelligent and friendly. He started understanding many of our actions and words.

Whenever we called his name, he would run toward us happily.

He played with us, followed us everywhere, and even came along when we worked in our fields.

Over time, Milo grew stronger and healthier.

One day, Batu and I were working in our field when suddenly Milo came running toward us.

But this time, he was not alone.

Behind him was another monkey — a female monkey.

Batu laughed and said, "It looks like Milo brought his girlfriend with him!"

We were surprised but also happy.

The female monkey looked calm and friendly, so we allowed her to stay with us too.

After some time, something wonderful happened.

The female monkey gave birth to a small baby monkey.

Now there were three monkeys living with us — Milo, his partner, and their tiny baby.

They all stayed with us happily.

Whenever I remember the day when that frightened little monkey ran toward us in the forest, I realize something special happened that day.

What started as a simple camping trip turned into a beautiful and lifelong friendship.

And even today, Milo and his family live with us, reminding us that kindness toward animals can create bonds that last forever. 🐒❤️
