Chapter 1 - Rat And Cat

In a massive, ancient mansion lived a stout tomcat named Tiger. With his tiger-like stripes and a royal temperament, he lived a life of luxury. His owner fed him expensive canned food, and Tiger's only "jobs" were basking in the sun on the veranda and occasionally chasing a stray mouse to show off his bravery.

On the other hand, in a dark corner of the kitchen lived a clever little mouse named Chintu. Though small, Chintu was unrivaled in intelligence. He often regaled his fellow mice with stories of how he had narrowly escaped Tiger's claws. However, due to a recent food shortage, Chintu had to risk his life more frequently to raid the kitchen.

One midnight, as Chintu climbed the dining table in search of a piece of cheese, Tiger woke up. In the darkness, Tiger's glowing eyes locked onto Chintu. Without making a sound, Tiger extended his sharp claws.

Detecting the danger, Chintu leaped to the floor, and a classic cat-and-mouse chase began. Tiger roared, "No one can save you today, you tiny creature!"

Panting from the run, Chintu flashed a tiny smile. He knew he couldn't win with brute force; he had to use his wits. He suddenly darted behind a heavy glass vase. Blinded by rage, Tiger pounced, and with a loud crash, the expensive vase shattered into pieces.

The sound of the breaking vase made Tiger pause, fearing the owners would wake up. But then he realized a large shard of glass had pierced his front paw. The mighty cat groaned in agony as blood began to soak the carpet. Tiger was pinned down, unable to move.

Chintu watched everything from the safety of his hole. He had the perfect chance to escape, but seeing Tiger's miserable state, he felt a surge of pity. He thought, "Even if he is an enemy, he is part of this house. If he dies, a much more ferocious cat might take his place."

Chintu cautiously approached Tiger. The cat was hissing in pain but was helpless. Chintu said softly, "Stay calm, Tiger. I want to help you."

Tiger was stunned to see the tiny mouse he had tried to kill now using his teeth to carefully pull the glass shard out of his paw. With great effort, Chintu managed to remove it. He then fetched some medicinal leaves (which mice use to heal their own wounds), chewed them up, and applied the paste to Tiger's injury.

As the pain subsided, Tiger lowered his head in shame. "I looked down on you, Chintu. Today, you saved my life."

Chintu smiled gently and replied, "Strength isn't the biggest thing, Tiger; standing by someone in danger is."

The next day, the atmosphere in the mansion changed. The owner was surprised to see that Tiger was no longer eager to hunt mice; he simply sat quietly near the kitchen. And Chintu, without fear, would scurry right past him.

In reality, they had made a secret pact. Tiger would occasionally "pretend" to chase Chintu just to show the owner he was doing his job. In return, Tiger would leave a portion of his gourmet food near Chintu's hole every day.
