Chapter 6
The entire clearing went silent.
Even the wind seemed to pause.
Ariana Sinclair floated several feet above the ground, surrounded by blazing golden light. The energy pulsed around her body like a living storm.
Her hair lifted gently in the air as if gravity had forgotten her.
And her eyes—
glowed gold.
Not faintly.
Not softly.
But with a power that made every supernatural creature in the clearing feel it.
Fear.
Kael Vaughn stared up at her, his chest tight.
His wolf was completely silent.
For the first time in years.
Cassian recovered first.
The vampire lord brushed dirt from his coat and slowly straightened.
"Well," he said quietly.
"That explains why the council panicked."
No one answered him.
All eyes remained fixed on Ariana.
The winged creature stepped forward slowly, its silver eyes filled with disbelief.
"This is impossible," it whispered.
Kael's head snapped toward it.
"What is?"
The creature didn't look away from Ariana.
"The Fifth Blood was never supposed to awaken like this."
Ariana suddenly gasped.
The golden light around her flared violently.
Pain shot through her body.
It felt like something enormous was forcing its way through her veins.
"I can't—" she cried out.
Kael moved instantly.
"Ariana!"
The moment he stepped closer, the golden light surged again.
Stronger.
Wild.
The force of it pushed him backward.
Cassian's red eyes widened slightly.
"Interesting," he murmured.
The winged creature looked troubled.
"The power is unstable."
Ariana clutched her chest as the energy burned through her body.
"What's happening to me?" she cried.
No one answered.
Because none of them knew.
The golden light continued spreading across her skin, glowing beneath the surface like molten fire.
Kael growled under his breath.
He could feel the bond now.
Not just the mate bond.
Something deeper.
Older.
His wolf stirred uneasily.
This wasn't normal.
Cassian folded his arms thoughtfully.
"You know," he said casually, "the council archives did mention something like this."
Kael shot him a sharp glare.
"Start talking."
Cassian smirked.
"The Fifth Blood doesn't simply awaken."
He gestured toward Ariana floating in the air.
"It transforms."
The winged creature turned toward him sharply.
"You're wrong."
Cassian raised an eyebrow.
"Oh?"
"The Fifth Blood is a balance keeper," the creature said firmly.
"Not a ruler."
Cassian chuckled.
"That's what the council wanted everyone to believe."
The creature's wings shifted slightly.
"You're playing a dangerous game, vampire."
Cassian ignored the warning.
His eyes returned to Ariana.
"Gold eyes," he said softly.
"That hasn't happened in centuries."
Kael's stomach tightened.
"What does it mean?"
Cassian smiled.
"It means the prophecy was incomplete."
Before Kael could demand an explanation—
Ariana screamed.
The golden light exploded outward again.
This time the force was stronger.
Trees cracked.
The ground split beneath their feet.
Even the winged creature was pushed back several steps.
Kael forced himself forward despite the pressure.
"Ariana!"
Her glowing eyes snapped open.
And for one terrifying moment—
they weren't focused.
They were wild.
Uncontrolled.
Like she couldn't see anything around her.
The golden energy surged higher into the sky, forming a swirling vortex above the clearing.
Cassian's amused expression finally faded.
"Well…"
"That's not good."
Kael grabbed Ariana's hand the moment she dropped slightly toward the ground.
The contact changed everything.
The moment their skin touched—
the storm stopped.
The golden energy froze in place.
The clearing went silent again.
Ariana blinked slowly.
The wild look in her eyes faded.
Her body dropped weakly into Kael's arms.
He caught her instantly.
Her breathing was shallow.
"Ariana," he said quietly.
Her golden eyes flickered weakly.
"I didn't mean to do that."
Kael's expression softened slightly.
"I know."
Behind them, Cassian whistled under his breath.
"Well," the vampire lord said.
"That confirms it."
Kael didn't turn around.
"Confirms what?"
Cassian's voice was no longer playful.
It was serious.
"The Alpha bond."
Kael's body stiffened.
The winged creature stepped forward again.
"That's impossible."
Cassian shrugged.
"And yet here we are."
He gestured toward Ariana in Kael's arms.
"The Fifth Blood and the Alpha."
His red eyes gleamed.
"Bound together."
Kael's wolf growled inside his mind.
But before anyone could say anything else—
a deep horn blast echoed through the forest.
Everyone froze.
The winged creature turned sharply toward the sound.
"No," it whispered.
Kael's head lifted.
"What is that?"
Cassian's smile slowly returned.
"The rest of the council."
Ariana's golden eyes flickered open weakly.
"How many… are there?"
Cassian looked toward the forest.
Torches were multiplying rapidly between the trees.
Dozens.
Then more.
His smile widened.
"Enough to start a war."
Kael's expression hardened.
"Then we're leaving."
Cassian laughed.
"I'm afraid it's too late for that."
Ariana felt Kael's arms tighten around her as something massive moved through the forest.
Trees snapped.
Branches broke.
And then—
something enormous stepped into the clearing.
Twice the size of a normal wolf.
Its fur was pure white.
Its eyes burned with blue fire.
Kael's blood ran cold.
Because he recognized it immediately.
"The High Alpha."
Silence fell across the clearing.
The enormous wolf shifted slowly into human form.
A tall man stepped forward, radiating ancient authority.
His icy gaze locked directly onto Ariana.
Then he spoke.
One sentence that made Kael's heart drop.
"Bring me the girl."
