Cherreads

Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 — The First Bet

Julius Alon could barely focus on the ride home.

The wind from the moving motorcycle rushed past him as the Move It rider navigated through the late-night streets of Makati. Neon lights from convenience stores and restaurants blurred into colorful streaks as they passed intersections.

Normally Julius would feel exhausted after a long workday.

Tonight was different.

His body was tired.

But his mind was racing.

Every few seconds he replayed the moment in the pantry.

The broken bowl.

The word he shouted.

The world twisting.

And then everything resetting.

He tightened his grip on the seat behind the rider.

Did I really rewind time?

Even thinking about it felt unreal.

But the memory was clear.

Too clear to be a dream.

He had done it twice.

Maybe even three times.

Julius looked down at the passing road beneath the streetlights.

"If this is real…" he murmured quietly under the sound of the wind.

"…everything changes."

The rider stopped at a red light near Guadalupe Bridge.

Cars idled around them.

Julius stared at the glowing skyscrapers in the distance.

A strange excitement bubbled inside him.

He had always dreamed of escaping the endless cycle of corporate life.

Coding all day.

Fixing bugs all night.

Getting paid just enough to survive.

But never enough to move forward.

Tonight he had discovered something impossible.

Something powerful.

Thirty seconds of control over time.

If he used it properly…

Julius smiled beneath his helmet.

"…I might actually become rich."

The light turned green.

The motorcycle accelerated again.

A Small Apartment

Twenty minutes later, the motorcycle stopped outside a small apartment building in Taguig.

Julius removed his helmet and paid the rider.

"Thanks, kuya."

"No problem, sir."

The rider drove away.

Julius looked up at the apartment building.

It wasn't impressive.

Just a narrow three-story structure squeezed between two other buildings.

The paint was faded.

The stairwell lights flickered slightly.

But it was cheap.

And cheap was all Julius could afford.

He climbed the stairs and unlocked the door to his unit.

The room inside was small.

A single bed near the wall.

A second-hand desk with his laptop.

A tiny kitchen area.

And a small window facing the street.

Not exactly the luxurious Makati skyline he had imagined earlier.

But it was home.

Julius dropped his bag onto the chair and collapsed onto the bed.

He stared at the ceiling.

His head still felt slightly heavy from the strange sensation earlier.

But the excitement inside him refused to fade.

He whispered quietly to himself.

"I can rewind time."

The words felt surreal.

Like something from a movie or a game.

Julius turned to the side and looked at his phone.

His bank balance still showed the same depressing number.

Available Balance: ₱0.97

He sighed.

"Well…"

"At least that part is still real."

But now there was something else.

Something that could change everything.

Julius sat up suddenly.

"If the rewind ability is real…"

"…I should test it properly."

But the moment he tried to stand, exhaustion hit him like a wave.

His eyes felt heavy.

His brain had been working nonstop since morning.

Coding.

Debugging.

Stress.

Then the strange headache from the power earlier.

Julius groaned and fell back onto the bed.

"Alright…"

"Testing tomorrow."

He closed his eyes.

"But if this works…"

A slow grin appeared on his face.

"I'm going to be rich."

Within seconds, exhaustion pulled him into sleep.

The Next Morning

Sunlight streamed through the window.

Julius slowly opened his eyes.

For a moment, he simply stared at the ceiling.

Then suddenly—

Everything from the previous night rushed back into his memory.

He sat up immediately.

"Right!"

"The power!"

Julius looked around his apartment quickly.

Everything looked normal.

Nothing had changed.

For a moment, doubt crept into his mind.

Was it just stress?

But then—

A familiar sensation appeared in his mind.

Words.

Clear and bright.

Like a system notification.

Rewind Time: 480 Seconds

Below it, another line appeared.

Recharge: 32 Minutes 23 Seconds

Julius's eyes widened.

"Whoa…"

He quickly did the math.

"480 seconds…"

"That's eight minutes!"

Then he noticed something else.

A small line of text appeared below it.

Recharge Rate: +60 seconds per hour

Julius leaned back in disbelief.

"So every hour…"

"…I gain one minute of rewind time?"

His heart began racing.

Eight minutes of rewind.

That was far more powerful than the thirty seconds he had used before.

Julius stood up and walked toward the window.

The morning city buzzed with life.

Jeepneys.

Motorcycles.

Street vendors preparing food.

His mind raced with possibilities.

"How can I use this?"

Investing?

Stock trading?

Negotiations?

Julius rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

Then his eyes drifted toward something outside.

A giant billboard across the street.

Bright red letters.

BINGOPLUS — PLAY & WIN BIG

Julius blinked.

"Online casino?"

He stared at it for several seconds.

Then slowly smiled.

"Well…"

"If I lose…"

"…I can just rewind."

His heart began pounding faster.

This might be the perfect way to test the power.

He grabbed his laptop and opened the Bingoplus website.

The login page appeared.

Games filled the screen.

Slot machines.

Baccarat.

Arcade games.

Live dealer tables.

Color games.

Roulette.

Crash games.

Fishing games.

Blackjack.

Julius leaned closer to the screen.

His account balance was empty.

He needed to cash in first.

Payment options appeared.

Bank.

GCash.

Maya.

Julius checked his phone.

His bank account was empty.

But he had something else.

His GCash wallet.

He checked the balance.

₱1,200

He nodded slowly.

"Alright."

"This will be the test."

Julius stared at the screen for a long moment.

Roulette.

The spinning wheel displayed on the website looked strangely hypnotic.

Red numbers.

Black numbers.

One green zero.

Simple.

Yet powerful.

If he guessed correctly, the payout could multiply his money many times over.

Normally gambling like this would be insane.

Pure luck.

Pure risk.

But Julius wasn't playing with luck.

He had something else.

Time.

He leaned back in his chair and whispered quietly.

"If I lose… I rewind."

The idea alone made his heart beat faster.

Julius checked his wallet.

₱1,200

It wasn't much.

But if his power really worked the way he thought…

This small amount could become something much bigger.

"Alright," he said.

"Let's try this."

He grabbed his wallet and left the apartment.

Cashing In

A small convenience store sat on the corner near his building.

The same store where he usually bought instant noodles and bottled water when his bank account was running low.

The bell above the door jingled as Julius walked inside.

A bored-looking clerk stood behind the counter scrolling through his phone.

Julius approached.

"Kuya, GCash cash in po."

The clerk looked up.

"How much?"

"₱1,200."

The clerk nodded and processed the transaction.

Julius handed over the cash.

A moment later his phone vibrated.

DING

GCash Notification₱1,200 has been added to your account.

Julius thanked the clerk and walked back to his apartment quickly.

His heart was beating faster now.

This wasn't just curiosity anymore.

This was an experiment.

And the result could change everything.

The First Spin

Back inside his apartment, Julius immediately opened his laptop.

He logged into the casino site again.

Then he transferred the money from GCash.

DING

₱1,200 successfully added to your casino balance.

The games menu appeared again.

Slot MachinesBaccaratArcade GamesLive DealerColor GameRouletteBlackjackCrash GameFishing Games

Julius leaned closer to the screen.

Slots looked fun.

But the results were random.

Baccarat required understanding patterns.

Blackjack involved strategy.

Roulette was simple.

One spin.

One result.

One number.

And if the number matched…

The payout was enormous.

Julius nodded.

"I think roulette will give the best return."

He clicked the game.

The screen loaded.

A live dealer appeared on camera beside a roulette wheel.

Players' bets appeared around the interface.

Numbers from 0 to 36.

Red and black squares filled the betting board.

A timer appeared at the top of the screen.

60 seconds remaining

The dealer smiled politely.

"Place your bets, please."

Julius swallowed.

His balance displayed clearly in the corner.

₱1,200

He moved his cursor slowly.

If he bet on a single number and won…

The payout would be 35 times the bet.

But if he lost…

Everything would disappear.

Julius clenched his jaw.

Then whispered quietly.

"Relax."

"If it fails… I rewind."

He moved the cursor to the green square.

0

"Why not," he muttered.

He clicked.

₱1,200 bet on 0

The timer ticked down.

30 seconds.

20 seconds.

10 seconds.

The dealer raised the ball.

"No more bets."

The roulette wheel began spinning.

The small white ball danced along the rim.

Julius leaned forward.

His heart pounded loudly in his chest.

"Come on…"

The ball bounced between numbers.

Red.

Black.

Red.

Then finally—

It dropped.

34

The result appeared on the screen.

Julius blinked.

His balance instantly dropped to zero.

"Ah."

He leaned back in his chair.

"Well…"

"That didn't work."

For a moment he simply stared at the screen.

Then he smiled.

"Good thing I have a backup plan."

Julius whispered quietly.

"Back."

Rewind

The world twisted.

The room blurred.

His laptop screen flickered slightly.

Then—

Everything reset.

The roulette game was loading again.

The dealer smiled.

"Place your bets, please."

Julius looked at the screen carefully.

The timer read 60 seconds again.

His balance returned.

₱1,200

He looked at the number from the previous spin.

34

Julius slowly exhaled.

"It works."

He moved the cursor to the number.

34

His hand trembled slightly as he placed the bet.

₱1,200 on 34

He leaned forward, clenching his fists.

This time he wasn't guessing.

He already knew the outcome.

But the anticipation still made his heart race.

The timer counted down.

10 seconds.

The dealer raised the ball.

"No more bets."

The wheel began spinning again.

The ball circled the rim.

Julius held his breath.

Even though he knew the result.

Even though he had already seen it.

Watching it happen again felt surreal.

The ball bounced between numbers.

Then finally—

It dropped.

34

The number flashed on the screen.

The roulette interface exploded with animations.

WINNER

Julius jumped from his chair.

"I WON!"

His balance updated instantly.

₱42,000

For a moment he simply stared at the number.

Then reality hit him.

"₱42,000…"

His voice cracked slightly.

"That's…"

"That's thirty-five times my money."

Julius ran both hands through his hair.

His heart pounded wildly.

"I actually did it."

He looked around his tiny apartment in disbelief.

"I actually did it!"

He laughed loudly.

"HAHA!"

"I'm gonna be rich!"

Julius stared at the screen again.

₱1,200 had turned into ₱42,000 in less than two minutes.

And he still had his rewind power.

He slowly sat back down.

The excitement in his chest burned like fire.

Because this win meant something important.

This wasn't luck.

This wasn't gambling.
