Chapter 196 - Chapter 196: The Imperial Conduit

Before announcing the initiative to the broader faculty, Markus met privately with his grandparents in the central sanctuary of the lower sanctuary. Out of respect for family hierarchy and the Blackwell lineage, he laid out the framework of the exchange program first, ensuring his elders approved of the strategic timeline. Only after receiving their enthusiastic backing did he convene the rest of the inner team—Isolde, Sloane, and Rosanne—to brief them on the incoming influx of Valerian talent.

With the home front fully aligned, Markus stepped into a private chamber, closing his eyes as his sensory thread locked onto a distant spatial coordinate. Deep within his soul space, a silver anchor hummed in resonance.

With a soundless fold of the local dimensions, Markus vanished from the Aurelian grounds.

A fraction of a second later, space folded open inside a private, secluded courtyard within the Valerian Imperial Academy. The air here carried the familiar aroma of mana-infused pine and crisp mountain ozone—the unmistakable atmosphere of the empire's grandest institute.

Markus didn't waste a moment. Slipping through the administrative corridors with effortless, natural grace, he arrived at the high-arched doors of the Headmistress's solar.

Headmistress Elena looked up from a stack of high-tier academy budget scrolls, her sharp eyes widening slightly as Markus stepped into the light.

"Markus," Elena said, setting down her quill with a faint smile. "You return without warning, as usual. I assume this isn't merely a social visit?"

"Far from it, Headmistress," Markus replied, taking a seat across from her desk. "I am here to offer the Valerian Academy an unprecedented opportunity."

He laid out the blueprint for a One-Month Student and Faculty Exchange Program. Under the agreement, Valerian Academy would send a handpicked delegation of guest professors and top-tier student elites to the newly established branch academy in the Aurelian Empire. In return, they would gain direct access to primordial law lectures, advanced trial gauntlets, and high-tier cultivation environments that did not exist anywhere on the main continent.

Elena reviewed the proposal details, her eyes glittering with academic and political intrigue.

"A masterstroke," Elena declared, signing her official seal onto the scroll without hesitation. "Our senior researchers have been desperate for real data on the primordial realm's environmental shifts. Sending our best to your branch will elevate our academy's standing to heights the other noble houses can only dream of."

Leaving the Headmistress's solar, Markus made his way toward the ancient stone towers of the Central Library.

The moment he crossed the threshold of the main archway, the ambient noise of the outside world—wind rustling through the trees, distant student laughter, footfalls on cobblestone—instantly vanished into complete, absolute silence.

This was the domain of Elder Isaac. The veteran librarian had recently broken through his long-standing bottleneck, officially crossing Level 70 to reach the realm of Tier 7 sovereigns. His mastery over the Sound Element had evolved into a passive law domain: an absolute, perpetual Acoustic Suppression Field that blanketed millions of ancient scrolls and codices, preventing even the softest whisper from disturbing the silence.

Markus walked down the main aisle, his boots clicking soundlessly against the polished marble floor as the sound waves were instantly absorbed by the air.

Elder Isaac sat behind a massive oak desk, quietly restoring the binding of an ancient grimoire. Sensing Markus's approach, Isaac looked up over his spectacles. With a subtle flick of his fingers, he parted the acoustic field in a small, three-foot bubble around them.

"Markus," Isaac's deep, smooth voice resonated inside the bubble. "You walk lighter than you used to. Space bows to you now, doesn't it?"

"It has its uses, Elder Isaac," Markus smiled, inclining his head respectfully. "Congratulations on crossing Level 70. The domain over this library is magnificent."

"An old man's trick to get some peace and quiet," Isaac chuckled softly, his eyes twinkling. "I hear rumors of what you are building across the eastern borders. Be careful, boy. When a young dragon builds a second nest, the old kings take notice."

"Let them look," Markus replied calmly. "They will only see what I allow them to see."

After a brief, nostalgic catch-up with the librarian, Markus headed toward the open-air combat arenas on the lower eastern terraces.

Shouts of effort and the sharp crackle of elemental mana echoed across the training grounds. In the center ring stood Professor Candle, Markus's former combat instructor. Candle was in the middle of a live demonstration, his forearms coated in swirling ribbons of volatile Fire and Wind Law as he corrected a struggling student's casting form.

"Focus on the inflection point!" Candle bellowed, throwing a compressed fire-bolt into a kinetic target dummy. "If your wind vector lags behind your ignition rate, the spell collapses in your own palm!"

Markus leaned against the stone railing at the perimeter of the ring, watching quietly. As if sensing an anomaly in the ambient mana, Candle paused, turning his head toward the spectator gallery.

When Candle spotted Markus, a wide, fierce grin broke across his rugged face. He dismissed the class for a fifteen-minute breather and walked over to the railing, wiping sweat from his brow with a towel.

"Look at you," Candle laughed, clapping a heavy hand onto Markus's shoulder. "The 'Monster of the Valerian Freshmen' comes back to visit his old teacher! Word around the faculty lounge is you're running your own martial drills now."

"I learned from the best," Markus said smoothly. "Though Sloane Blackwell handles the actual physical torture at our new grounds."

Candle winced jokingly. "Sloane? Gods help those students. If you ever need a guest instructor who actually knows how to teach elemental weaving without breaking every bone in a cadet's body, you know where to find me."

"I'll hold you to that, Professor," Markus smiled. "You might be seeing an official invitation sooner than you think."

Leaving the academy grounds, Markus stepped through a high-altitude spatial fold, reappearing directly inside the private reception hall of the Valerian Imperial Palace.

Emperor Valerian sat at his private reading desk, dressed in dark crimson silk robes embroidered with the golden dragon crest of the royal family. Behind him stood two shadows of the Royal Guard, though they relaxed their grips on their hilts the moment they recognized Markus's unique spatial aura.

"Markus," Emperor Valerian spoke, his voice carrying the calm, weighty resonance of a true monarch. "You return from the frontlines of the new world."

"Your Majesty," Markus bowed with refined imperial etiquette.

Without preamble, Markus retrieved a series of sealed spatial storage chests from his inventory, placing them onto the heavy mahogany table before the throne.

"These are rare primordial catalysts and high-tier ores harvested directly from the uncorrupted domains," Markus explained as the chests opened, revealing the blinding radiance of the preserved flora and metals. "I have reserved these specifically for the Royal Family's personal cultivation and the imperial armory."

Emperor Valerian stood up, walking down from the dais to examine the specimens. As a Tier 7 powerhouse himself, he could instantly feel the pre-fracture purity radiating from the items.

"Incredible," the Emperor murmured, looking up at Markus with deep, strategic satisfaction. "You have achieved in months what our border scouts couldn't accomplish in decades."

"There is one more matter, Your Majesty," Markus added, his silver-blue eyes locking onto the Emperor's gaze. "I have officially established a secondary branch academy inside the Aurelian Empire. It operates under the name and authority of the Eternity Guild."

The Emperor held his gaze for a long moment, a slow, calculated smile spreading across his regal features. He understood the diplomatic significance immediately. By placing the branch under the neutral, sovereign banner of the Eternity Guild rather than the Valerian Crown directly, Markus had created a perfect beachhead inside rival territory without triggering an immediate continental war—while still keeping the true power tethered directly to the Valerian axis.

"A brilliant strategic move," Emperor Valerian nodded in deep approval. "The Crown will officially sanction your exchange program. Send us the list of required resources, guest passes, and imperial mandates. The Valerian Empire stands fully behind your Eternity Guild."

With the imperial crown's full backing secured, the exchange program finalized, and his ties to his homeland strengthened, Markus bowed to the Emperor, ready to return to Aurelia and initiate the next phase of his global design.
