Chapter 2: The Bra Strap Blunder

Zain Ali pushed through the crowded school gates, the late afternoon sun painting Tokyo in soft gold and pink. Cherry blossoms swirled around his feet like confetti from some divine celebration. His heart hammered with pure, unfiltered joy. Level two already. Two hundred EXP in a single day. And that blush from Sawako Kuronuma? Priceless. His CHA stat was clearly broken, and he was not complaining one bit.

Oppai paradise confirmed, his inner voice sang in perfect Issei Hyoudou fashion. Sawako-chan's eyes when I offered her that spicy chicken… man, if I play this right, first girlfriend route unlocks by tomorrow. Just keep it cool, Zain. No exposing the system. No mentioning Kot Addu truck death. Smile, flirt, level up.

He was halfway down the tree-lined path when a soft voice called out behind him.

"Z-Zain-kun… wait!"

He turned. Sawako hurried after him, long black hair swaying, cheeks still faintly pink from lunch. She clutched her bag strap with both hands, looking every bit the shy horror-movie heroine who had somehow stepped out of a rom-com. Her uniform skirt fluttered in the breeze, and Zain's perverted brain short-circuited for half a second.

Those legs. That timid posture. Protect her at all costs. Also, respectfully admire the view.

"Um… you said… maybe walk home together?" she asked, voice barely above a whisper. Her eyes darted to the ground, then back to him. "If it's not too much trouble."

Zain flashed his brightest grin, the one he had practiced in the bathroom mirror back in Kot Addu a thousand times. "Trouble? Are you kidding? I'd walk to Pakistan and back if it meant walking with you, Sawako-chan."

Her face exploded into crimson. She squeaked and hid half her face behind her hair, but she fell into step beside him anyway.

[Affection +8%]

[Sawako Kuronuma – Current Affection: 23% – "He's… really nice?"]

System, you beautiful bastard. Keep feeding me these numbers.

They walked in comfortable silence for the first block. Sakura High shrank behind them, replaced by quiet residential streets lined with neat houses and small corner shops. Zain pointed out random things to keep the conversation going—how the cherry blossoms reminded him of home festivals, how Japanese convenience stores were straight-up magic compared to Kot Addu's tiny markets. Sawako listened with wide eyes, occasionally nodding or offering a tiny smile that made his chest feel weirdly warm.

Then it happened.

A delivery scooter zipped around the corner too fast, horn blaring. Zain reacted on instinct, grabbing Sawako's arm to pull her out of the way. His foot caught on an uneven sidewalk tile. Momentum betrayed him. They tumbled sideways together in a tangle of limbs and school bags.

Time slowed.

Zain's right hand, flailing for balance, hooked perfectly under the back of Sawako's uniform blouse. Fingers brushed warm skin, then caught the thin strap of her bra with horrifying precision. The hook popped open with a tiny click that sounded like a gunshot in his ears.

Sawako froze. Her entire body went rigid against him.

Zain's brain screamed in three languages at once.

OH MY GOD. OPPai EMERGENCY. I JUST UNHOOKED HER BRA ON DAY ONE. THIS IS HOW I DIE AGAIN. TRUCK-KUN PART TWO. SYSTEM, ABORT MISSION. ABORT—

He yanked his hand back so fast he nearly dislocated his shoulder. They landed in a heap beside a low stone wall, Zain on his back and Sawako half on top of him, blouse slightly askew, face buried in his chest.

For three full seconds neither of them moved.

Then Sawako let out the tiniest, most mortified squeak he had ever heard.

"I-I'm so sorry!" Zain blurted, scrambling upright and averting his eyes like a gentleman. His face burned hotter than the Kot Addu sun. "That was an accident! Total accident! I swear on every anime I've ever watched—I wasn't trying to— I mean, the scooter— and my foot— and— oh god, please don't hate me."

Sawako sat up slowly, clutching the front of her blouse with both hands. Her hair curtained her face completely. She was trembling, but not from fear. A soft, embarrassed giggle escaped her.

"You… you really are strange, Zain-kun," she whispered. "But… thank you. For saving me from the scooter."

Zain blinked. She's not mad? She's laughing?

He wanted to scream his victory to the heavens, but he kept his voice gentle. "Here, let me help." He turned around respectfully, offering his blazer like a shield. "Fix whatever needs fixing. I won't peek. Promise."

Sawako took the blazer and ducked behind it. Thirty seconds of frantic rustling later she handed it back, cheeks still glowing. "All… all done. Thank you."

Zain rubbed the back of his neck, laughing nervously. "So… friends still?"

She nodded, peeking up at him through her bangs. "More than friends… maybe? I mean— if you want."

His heart did a full Boosted Gear explosion.

They resumed walking, the awkwardness melting into something warmer. Sawako even teased him a little about his "Pakistan spice tolerance test" from lunch. The sun dipped lower, turning the sky into a watercolor painting of orange and lavender.

Halfway home they passed a small park. A familiar voice rang out.

"Hori! Wait up!"

Zain glanced over. Two girls were jogging along the path. One had a sharp ponytail and an apron peeking from her bag—Kyoko Hori, domestic goddess extraordinaire. The other was tiny, twin-tailed, and glaring like she wanted to bite someone—Taiga Aisaka.

Hori spotted them and waved. "New guy! And… Sawako? You two know each other already?"

Sawako nodded shyly. Zain offered his most charming smile. "Just met today. I'm Zain. Transferred from Pakistan. Nice to meet you both."

Hori's eyes narrowed playfully. "Pakistan, huh? You any good at cooking? Because if you bring more of that spicy chicken tomorrow, I might forgive you for stealing my rooftop spot at lunch."

Taiga crossed her arms. "Tch. Don't get cocky, new guy. This school's full of weirdos already."

Zain laughed. Two more routes spotted. System, you're spoiling me.

Before he could reply, a faint chill crawled down his spine. Across the street, in the shadow of an alley, something moved. Red eyes flashed once—then vanished. Zain's Observe skill pinged automatically.

He blinked it away. Not today, creepy alley monster. I've got waifus to charm.

Zain turned back to the girls, grin wider than ever. "How about we all walk together? Safety in numbers. And Hori-san, I'll bring double the chicken tomorrow. Deal?"

Hori smirked. Taiga huffed but didn't refuse. Sawako smiled softly beside him.

As the four of them continued down the street, the first stars twinkled overhead. Somewhere far away, the sky seemed to flicker—just for a heartbeat—with the faintest crimson edge of an eclipse no one else could see.

Zain didn't notice. He was too busy living the dream.
