Chapter 1 - The Second Breath of the Fallen

**Title: Hunter Reborn**

Chapter 1: The Second Breath of the Fallen**

The rain fell like needles from the sky, drumming endlessly against broken stone and shattered steel. A battlefield stretched across the valley—burned trees, cracked earth, and bodies that would never rise again.

At the center of it all lay a man.

His armor was torn apart, soaked in blood that no longer seemed to belong to him. His breathing was shallow, barely there. Around him were the corpses of monsters—creatures twisted beyond nature: horned wolves, shadow beasts, and a towering serpent split down the middle.

The man had killed them all.

But it had cost him everything.

Rael Varden, known across the continents as **The Last Hunter**, stared weakly at the gray sky. The rain blurred his vision, mixing with the blood on his face.

"So… this is how it ends," he whispered.

Twenty years of hunting monsters. Twenty years protecting cities that barely remembered his name. Twenty years fighting creatures born from the mysterious Gates that had begun appearing across the world.

And now… it was over.

The enormous shadow above him moved.

The creature that had nearly destroyed the world—the **Abyssal Tyrant**—towered over the battlefield. Even dying, its massive body radiated an ancient darkness. Its wings were torn, its scales shattered, but its single remaining eye glowed with hatred.

"You… human…" the creature rasped in a voice like grinding stone.

Rael coughed blood.

"Still talking?" he muttered weakly. "You monsters really don't know when to quit."

The Tyrant leaned closer.

"You killed… my kin… my generals… my armies…"

Rael chuckled, though it hurt.

"Yeah. Someone had to."

The monster's eye narrowed.

"But you die as well."

Rael didn't deny it.

His body had already reached its limit long ago. The only reason he was still alive was stubbornness.

But something strange happened then.

The monster lowered its head closer… studying him.

"…Curious," it growled.

Rael frowned weakly.

"What?"

"You humans… fear death. Yet you laugh."

Rael stared at the sky again.

"I'm not laughing because I'm dying."

"Then why?"

Rael's voice softened.

"Because I know we won."

The Tyrant was silent.

Rael continued.

"You were the last one. The Gates will close. Humanity survives."

For the first time, the monster seemed… thoughtful.

Then it laughed.

A deep, echoing sound.

"Foolish hunter."

Rael sighed.

"Yeah, I hear that a lot."

The monster's eye glowed brighter.

"You misunderstand fate."

The sky darkened.

A strange energy began swirling around the Tyrant's dying body.

Rael felt it immediately.

Mana.

But not ordinary mana.

Ancient mana.

"…What are you doing?" Rael asked.

The monster smiled—a terrifying expression.

"You have proven something rare, human."

Rael didn't like where this was going.

"You killed a king."

"…And?"

The Tyrant's voice lowered.

"So I will give you a gift."

Rael blinked.

"…A gift?"

The creature's power began collapsing inward, forming a vortex of black light.

"A second hunt."

Rael suddenly felt the air twisting around him.

"Wait—what—"

The monster's final words echoed across the battlefield.

"Live again… Hunter."

Then the world shattered.

---

Rael woke up gasping.

Air rushed violently into his lungs as if he had been drowning. His heart pounded like a war drum.

He sat up instantly.

"—!"

But something felt wrong.

Very wrong.

The battlefield was gone.

No monsters.

No rain.

No broken weapons.

Instead, he was in a small wooden room.

A window beside him let sunlight pour across the floor.

Rael stared blankly.

"…What?"

He looked down.

His armor was gone.

Instead, he was wearing simple clothes—linen shirt, rough pants.

His hands trembled slightly.

Not from injury.

From strength.

Or rather…

The lack of it.

"…No way."

Rael jumped out of bed and rushed toward a cracked mirror hanging on the wall.

The reflection nearly stopped his heart.

A young man stared back at him.

Black hair. Clear eyes. Smooth skin untouched by scars.

Rael slowly touched his face.

"…I look like I'm seventeen."

His mind raced.

Impossible.

He had been thirty-seven when he died.

He knew he died.

The Tyrant's power had destroyed everything around them.

So why—

Rael froze.

Memories rushed through his mind.

Not his old memories.

New ones.

A different life.

A different Rael.

A weak hunter-in-training.

A boy who had just failed the **Hunter Awakening Exam** yesterday.

Rael gripped the edge of the table.

"…You've got to be kidding me."

He staggered backward into the chair.

"Reborn…?"

The word felt absurd.

But the memories flooding his head were real.

This world was the same… yet different.

The Gates hadn't fully opened yet.

The monster crisis was still years away.

Cities were still safe.

Hunter academies had just begun forming.

Rael's heart started beating faster.

"…This is before everything."

Before the fall of the northern kingdoms.

Before the dragon swarms.

Before the Abyssal Tyrant.

Before millions died.

Rael slowly looked at his hands again.

A second chance.

The monster's voice echoed in his mind.

**"Live again… Hunter."**

Rael clenched his fist.

Power surged faintly inside him.

Small.

Weak.

But familiar.

Mana.

He laughed quietly.

"Alright."

He stood up.

"If this is a second hunt…"

His eyes sharpened with the same cold focus that once terrified monsters across continents.

"…then I'm not making the same mistakes."

In his previous life, he had struggled for decades.

He learned everything the hard way.

Every skill.

Every weakness of monsters.

Every secret of the Gates.

But now?

He already knew.

Every dungeon layout.

Every monster evolution.

Every hidden artifact.

Every future disaster.

Rael smiled slowly.

"If the world wants hunters…"

His aura flickered.

"…I'll become the strongest one before the war even begins."

But just as he said that—

A strange sound echoed in his mind.

**DING.**

Rael froze.

A glowing blue screen appeared in front of him.

---

**SYSTEM INITIALIZING…**

**Host Identified: RAEL VARDEN**

**Condition: Reborn**

**Unique Skill Unlocked: Hunter's Archive**

**Welcome back, Last Hunter.**

---

Rael stared at the screen.

Then he burst out laughing.

"Oh… this is going to be fun."

Outside the window, the peaceful city continued its ordinary day.

People walked the streets.

Merchants shouted about fresh bread.

Students hurried toward the Hunter Academy.

None of them knew.

The man who once killed the strongest monster in history had just returned.

And this time—

Rael Varden intended to rewrite the entire future.

The hunt had begun again.

But now…

The hunter was reborn.
