Chapter 4 — Basement Lab and the Black Box

Ethan stared down at the basement of his private residence. It wasn't much—just a room with old workbenches, scattered tools, and a ping-pong table pushed to the side—but it was perfect. Secure, stable, and, most importantly, under his control.

Ethan: "This will do. The Black Box needs stability, and this basement is as good as it gets."

He tapped his wrist interface. Golden light swirled as the system responded.

System: "Secure location confirmed. Black Box Module deployment permitted. Host discretion advised for placement and operation. Energy calibration will follow initial setup."

Ethan nodded. "Understood."

With a soft hum, the Black Box materialized in midair, sleek and compact. It hovered a moment before settling at the center of the floor, holographic conduits spiraling around it.

Ethan: "…Black Box in position. Let's see what you can do."

System: "Black Box Module deployed. Ready for fabrication of Arc Reactor components. Human-based material sourcing required. Host must supply high-grade industrial alloys, advanced circuitry, and energy-conductive components for assembly. Operational guidance provided."

Ethan: "Materials are human-based. Alloys, circuits, energy cells… nothing impossible. That makes planning feasible."

He leaned closer to the module, studying the glowing holograms. Each component of the Arc Reactor pulsed softly, waiting for the materials that would allow it to take shape.

System: "Host may sell manufactured or discovered items for system points. Points may be used to purchase additional tools, equipment, or resource enhancements necessary for fabrication and city upgrades."

Ethan: "Acknowledged. $1,000 per system point remains. Planning will have to account for resource management."

He began organizing his basement into functional zones: materials storage in one corner, assembly area in the center, and a small desk for planning. The Black Box hummed steadily, awaiting his first input.

Ethan: "First step: acquire the necessary alloys, energy cells, and circuitry. Then fabrication can begin. Nothing can be left to chance."

The city above carried on, unaware of the technology taking shape below. Criminal syndicates, meta-human experiments, and unknown threats moved in the shadows. The system would not warn him. The Arc Reactor would not fight for him. Only his planning, preparation, and execution would matter.

Ethan: "No heroes. No assistance. Just the system, the Black Box, and what I can accomplish. It begins here."

The golden light pulsed softly, almost like a heartbeat, signaling readiness.

System: "Acknowledged, Host. Civilization advancement modules operational. Material sourcing recommended. Marketplace
